McDaniel, Gibson vie for judgeship

The Hardin County judge seat held by Billy Caraway for the past 16 years is coming close to being replaced. Wayne McDaniel Jr. of Lumberton andAnthony Kade Gibson of Silsbee will be vying for the position in the only contested Hardin County race on Tuesday for Election Day.

County probes black mold in annex building

County officials will be making a decision on how to tackle a mold issue that has caused a problem in one area of the county annex building across the street from the county courthouse. TheWomen, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and the Crime Victims Dept. was forced to move its operation from one of the areas of the building that poses most of the  problem of mold.

Pickup Sticks

A woodville man suffered minor injuries after the logging truck he was driving, rolled at the intersection of U.S. 69 and Texas 327 on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m. Claude Broom, 60, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He was cited for unsafe speed. According to DPS, Broom was traveling south on U.S. 69 attempting to make a left onto 327 at an unsafe speed

Dedicating herself

Shirley Andrew has been involved in and helping with the progress of cancer research for a good portion of her life. Only recently, though, has she experienced cancer first hand. Andrew went in for her yearly check-up
last December. Instead  of just a regular mammogram, she has to undergo ultrasounds due to the density of the tissue in her breasts.

Elementary completion date delayed

Silsbee ISD board trustees voted on pushing back the opening date of its new elementary campus to December 2015. The original plan was to begin the 2015 school year in the new building, however, economic reasons have forced the board to delay such plans, at a recent September board meeting.

Boy recovering after accident

An 11-year-old Lumberton boy is recovering after being hit by a car in the Boykin Subdivision in Lumberton on Thursday, Oct. 9. Lumberton authorities rushed to the 7600 block of Cobblestone Terrace after a call was received of the boy being hit at around 6:30 p.m. He was air lifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery from a head injury.

Entertainment packed Saturday in store

This Saturday will be busy with tons of entertainment throughout the day in Silsbee and the surrounding area.

The Hardin County Airport will be holding its second annual appreciation day and swap meet beginning at 9 a.m. at Hawthorne Field.

The event is fun for the whole family with food being prepared by the Boy Scouts Troop 770, and it includes a close-up look at the fly machines for all those plane enthusiasts.

The most widely attended event Cruise'n Silsbee will be the highlight of Saturday, beginning with open registration of vehicles at 8 a.m at the former Kirby Memorial Stadium in Silsbee.

The event runs through the day complete with DJ's, Hula Hoop contests, and food vendors.

At 1:30 p.m., the Burnout Contest begins on the property of Modica Bros. in Silsbee. The parade of Cruise'n Silsbee is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. through town.
