Lumberton MUD officially opens new facility

Employees of the Lumberton Municipal Utility District are enjoying their new digs as they open for their first day of official business at their new and high-tech facility. The new building is located on FM 421 and is officially open for business. Customers will find a completely self contained facility with all offices and departments located within the facility.

One mail sorting area for postal carriers at the Silsbee postal office seemed empty with no activity last week. But as carriers scurried with rolling bins and mail throughout the back warehouse of the post office in the morning, there stood a small woman, as she gazed at the empty space.

Richard Tomlinson of Silsbee knows how much bike safety is important in terms of traveling down busy streets, roads or highways. Most aren't aware of the rules for bikers to maintain their right to the road. Tomlinson joined a team in Houston called Houston Ghost Bike to help spread the word of safety.

A woman, who according to records, bared insurmountable tragedy at a young age, and now buried among the pines on the land beside Kirby Cemetery.

Lumberton Fire

A Tuesday afternoon fire damaged apartment 201 in the Dana Place Apartments. The extent of the damage was unknown at press time but officers reported that smoke was billowing out of the apartment from an upstairs window when they arrived.

327 Mishap

No injuries were reported after two cars collided at Texas 327 East and Hwy. 96 Bypass on Monday afternoon. Angela Walker, 29, of Beaumont, was driving a Nissan Sentra on the exit southbound ramp of Hwy. 96. Danielle Guzman, 17, of Evadale was traveling east on 327 when the the Sentra entered the roadway, and the cars collided. Walker was cited for failure to yield right of way.

Typical, that is, until he opens his mouth and a much more mature and ever so familiar voice begins to recite the songs of none other than the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley.
