Leslie Elam

Leslie Marie Elam, 49, of Beaumont and a native of Silsbee, died Thursday,March 13, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Silsbee under the direction of J.B. ColemanMemorial Mortuary, also in Silsbee with burial following in Kirby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Survivors include sons, Lawrence Elam, Elisha McMahon IV, and Jonathan Mitchell, all of Beaumont; daughter, Sharneka Hudson of Beaumont; brothers, Rev. Alvin Hickman and wife Debra of Silsbee, Jerome Elam Jr. and wife Jackie of Beaumont, and Larry Donald Elam of Austin; sister, Linda Jones and husband Iva of Silsbee; and two grandchildren.

Iris King Allen, 65, of Kountze, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday,March 20 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze with burial following in Old Hardin Cemetery, also in Kountze. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at the funeral home. A native of Beaumont, she had lived in Kountze 35 years. She was a retired teacher with Kountze I.S.D with 20 years service. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Joe Allen; daughter, Lori Palmer and husband Michael of Beaumont; sons, Joe Allen Jr. and wife Sherri of Kountze and Randy Allen and wife Jaime of Silsbee; and six grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Rivette, 75, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Funeral service was Saturday, March 15 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home in Lumberton. A native of Leonville, Louisiana, she was a waitress at the Pig Stand for 20 plus years. Survivors include sons, Gary Rivette of China and Keith Rivette and wife Debbie of Rose City; daughters, Cyndi Conn Johnson of Lumberton and Sherry Dupuis and husband Marlo of Beaumont; sister, Eunice David of Louisiana; brother, Donald David; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Leon Sherd Wright, 72, of Vidor, died Sunday,March 16, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Service was held today (Wednesday, March 19) at Magnolia Springs Cemetery. A native of Kirbyville, he was a self-employed carpenter. He was a United States Army Vietnam Conflict veteran. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Joanna Kay Gibson Wright of Vidor; sons, Glenn Wright, Thomas Gonzales and Dave Gonzales; daughters, Rhonda Snider, Tammy Wiggins, Kimberly Wright, Theresa Nolan, and Sabrina Smith; brothers, Bill Wright and Gerald Wright; sister, Mary Stevens; and 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Barbara Platt Woodard, 73, lifelong resident of Sour Lake, was born on November 10, 1941 in Voth, Texas and passed awayMarch 9, 2014 in Beaumont. A memorial service has been scheduled for March 21, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church on FM 421. She was preceded in death by her parents Opal Hargraves and Albert Parker; and three brothers Luther, Larry and Ricky Parker. She is survived by children, Willard and Tim Platt, Vickie Gober and husband Bo, and Travis Kitchens and wife Monica; grandchildren Reba Nelson and husband Cody, James Platt, Shawn Platt, Matthew Gober, Dustin Gober and wife Ashlee and Samantha Hayes; great-grandchildren Claire, Kahlan, Trey and J.T; four brothers, Ralph Hargraves, Tommy Hinson and wifeMary, John Hinson, Jerry Parker and wife Vicky; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Parker; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Corrie Van Hancock, 83, of Silsbee, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare in Silsbee. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following in Quicksand Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A native of Beaumont, he had lived in Silsbee since 1968. He retired from MobilOil after 35 years as an operator and was a United States Air Force veteran. Survivors include his sister, Liz Hancock of Silsbee.

Graveside services for Lena Evelyn Jefferson Walker, 94, of Silsbee were at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Sanders Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation was from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Farmer Funeral Home. Mrs.Walker diedMarch 13, 2014 at her residence in Silsbee. A native and lifelong resident of Silsbee, Lena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Walker; sister, Johnnie Findley; grandson, Chris Harrington; great granddaughter, Alyssa Harris and son-in-laws, Lynn Harris and Jerry Vines. Survivors include sons, William Harrington and wife Dee of Overland Park, Kansas and Jim Harrington and wife Sue of Beaumont; daughters, Frances Harris, Deborah Phillips and husband Bosco, and Carolyn Ann Vines, all of Silsbee; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild.

Charles Elbert Carrell Jr., 63, of Honey Island, died Monday, March 17, 2014. A memorial service will be held at a later date. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze. A native of Raymondsville, he was employed with Austin Industrial in Baytown as a pipefitter. Survivors include Ginger of Honey Island; children, Tracy Hughes and husband Jesse of Honey Island, Thomas “Bubba” Carrell and wife Heather of Hardin, Charlene Carrell of Hardin, Tully Melancon and wife Lee Ann of Moss Hill, Benjie Carrell and husband Joe of Kountze, Wana Vestal and husband Bobby of Hardin, ShaonMusslewhite of Ivanhoe, Ryan Melancon and wife Julia of Hardin, and Gordon “Pee- Wee” Melancon and wife Kimberly of Hull; sister, Lila Pearl Varner and husband Toney of Liberty; brother, Joseph Pack Carrell and wife Benjie of Kountze; and 30 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren.
