Doyle O’Quinn

Doyle Gene O’Quinn, 81, of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Funeral service was Saturday, August 12 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home in Lumberton with burial following at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin. Born in Daisetta, he was a maintenance supervisor for Enron Corporation and was a United States Korean Conflict veteran. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ivy Jewell of Lumberton; son, Darrell Gene O’Quinn and wife Susan of League City; daughter, Deborah Kay Geldard and husband Lauren J. of LaVernia; sister, Barbara Cato and husband Edd of West Monroe, Louisiana; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Douglas Drake

Douglas Jackson Drake, 76, of Silsbee, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home. Funeral service was Monday, August 14 at Farmer funeral Home with burial following at Frank’s Branch Cemetery in Fred.A lifelong resident of the area, he worked for several businesses in Silsbee including E.M. Simmons and Clifton Caraway at Caraway Auto Sales as a paint and body man. Later on, he worked for Charles Riley Logging of Doucette, until he moved on to work for himself as a logger for many years until he retired. Survivors include his daughters, Tammy McGallion and husband Jerry, Becky Jeff coats and husband Bubba, Maggie Duhonand husband Eddie, and April Drake, all of Fred and Indi Buschof Drakeville; sons, Walter Drake and wife Molly Curtis Drake and wife Haven, all of Drakeville; brother, Dale Drake of Zapata;and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Marla Avery

Marla Ellis Avery, 46, of Denton, went to be with Jesus at 3:46 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 in Denton. She fought a great battle with Ocular Melanoma for nine years. She will be missed by all. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 19 at 11 a..m. at Denton Bible Church in Denton. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. the day of service at the church. Survivors include her husband, Stephen Avery of Denton; daughter, Lucy Avery of Denton; mother, Lynda Brooks Ellis of Henderson; father, Roger Ellis and his wife Ella of San Antonio; brother, Randy Ellis of San Antonio; sister, Melanie Ellis Malone of Henderson; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Carrol Winston Walton, 79, of Lumberton were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Walton Cemetery in Lumberton. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Walton passed away August 10, 2017 at his residence. Carrol was a lifelong resident of this area. He worked many years for Gulf States Utility Company before retiring. Mr. Walton loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Silsbee and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Hattie Riley Walton; brothers, J.D. Walton, L.B.

Betty Joyce Renken, 81, of Kountze, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at The Heights of Tomball. She was born on March 8, 1936 in Camden, to Jewel Pearline Landrum and Thomas Arthur Herrington. Survivors include her children, Bernard Renken, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Waller and Thomas Renken and his wife, Paula, of LaVernia; grandchildren, Melissa Crosby and her husband, Josh; Bernard "Spoede" Renken III; and Rhonda Pittman and her husband, Luther; and great-grandchildren, Mason Roebuck, Kamryn Crosby, Jackson Crosby, Emily Renken, Laney Darling, Nickolas Pittman, Roxanne Pittman, and Colton Pittman. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bernard "Slim" Renken. A gathering of Mrs. Renken's family and friends was from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2017, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Broussard’s, with her interment following at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
