Martin McKinney

Martin McKinney, 94, of Silsbee, passed away on Saturday, December. 4, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Martin was born in Melvid, Texas, on Jan. 28, 1923, to Albert and Myra McKinney. Martin proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a SSGT in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. A life-long resident of Silsbee, he made many contributions to the community as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Federation of Eagle Local 777, Crystal Beach and Knights of Pythius. He was also a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Silsbee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Myra McKinney; wife, Nena McKinney; brothers, Peroy McKinney, Phillip McKinney and Albert McKinney; sisters, Edna Denson, Edith Strickland, Martha Booth and Myra Wedgeworth.

Marscine Simmons

The sunrise of Marscine Edward Simmons was in Cedar Grove, Newton County, Texas on April 24, 1925, to parents Elder James Edwards Simmons and Cora Molly Simmons. Marscine’s sunset was Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the age of 92 years. He was a member of Simon Memorial Church of God in Christ where he was Head Deacon. He retired from Santa Fe Railroad with 39 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Essie Mae Simmons; one daughter, Patricia Simmons; six sisters, Pretha Bowie, Ocia Grace, Ona Cooper, Alvilda Scruggs, Elma Sells, and Pauline Coney; and six brothers, Causie Simmons, Alcie Simmons, Elder B.C.

Margaret J. Sasser, 77, of Silsbee, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 11 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at R.S. Farmer Cemetery in Silsbee. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, December 10 at the funeral home. Survivors include daughter, Lisa Lamey and husband Toney of Silsbee; son, Paul Sasser of Newton; sisters, Dr. Phyliss Coleman and husband Rusty of League City and Sheila Peveto and husband Jeff of Nederland; and two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Samuel Bruce II

Samuel “Sam” Mark Bruce II, 32, of Silsbee, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. He was born in Beaumont. Funeral service was Monday, December 4 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee with burial following at Antioch Cemetery in Buna. Survivors include his wife, Brittney Bruce; children, Laiken Bruce of Buna, and Jaxson Bruce, Noah Bruce, and Jace Bruce, all of Silsbee; parents, Angie and Mark Bruce of Hamilton; brother, John Bruce of Evadale; and grandmother, Helen Carrell of Hamilton.

Patricia Thompson

Patricia L. Fagg Thompson went to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 26, 2017. She was born on January 2, 1940 to Grover and Lois Fagg in Jacksonville, Texas. Pat graduated from Buna High School in 1958, and was an all-state guard on the state champ Buna Lady Cougar basketball team. On May 19, 1960, Pat married the love of her life George Malcolm Thompson, and they built a home in Evadale, to raise their three children. In 1970, George was badly injured in a logging accident, and a few years later Pat went to work for Evadale ISD to help support the family. Pat was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Evadale, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and worshipping the Lord. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Pat is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son George Malcom Thompson, Jr. (Bug).

Arthur William “Art” Gietzen Jr., 90, of Silsbee, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Funeral service was Monday, November 27 at First Baptist Church in Silsbee with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery in Silsbee under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary, also in Silsbee. Born in Beaumont, he was a retired civil engineer and a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife Patsy “Patti” Gietzen; daughter, Karen Chance and husband Church of Silsbee; son, John Eric Gietzen of Webster; sisters, Rita Tomassini of Little Rock, Arkansas, Polly Dunn of Nederland and Ethel Wheeler of White Hall, Maryland; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Born in Hardin County, he was a retired pipe-fitter and welder and a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Mary Walters of Spurger; daughters, Kim Sturrock and husband Clint of Chester and Cheryl Smith and husband Ben of Beaumont; sister, O’Dell Worsham; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Arthur Charles Payne of Silsbee; daughter, Angela Andrews and husband Jimmy of Silsbee; sons, Bobby Lee Payne and wife Rebecca and Charles Arthur Payne and wife Brittany, all of Silsbee; brothers, Stanford Soileau and wife Linell and Danial Solieau and wife Alicia; and five grandchildren.
