In Remembrance of Dr. Cynthia Marie Hollis Franklin

Cynthia departed this life on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in Daly City, California. Cynthia was a 1968 graduate of Silsbee High School. She also earned her Certificate of Completion in Vocational Nursing from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas, Associate in Science from City College of San Francisco, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fresno State University, Master of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco, and Doctor of Management from the University of Phoenix.

Cynthia loved her life, meeting and helping people, and traveling abroad. She lived the majority of her life in California, but also lived in Louisiana and Japan.

Vernon Sangwin

Vernon Ray Sangwin, 75, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2017. He was born in Silsbee.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, April 19) at the First Assembly of God Church in Silsbee with burial following at Frank’s Branch Cemetery in Fred under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sangwin; children, Sheila Moore and husband Robert of Concord, North Carolina, Barbara Walls and husband Don of Russellville, Arkansas, Frank Leroy Lee Jr. and wife Melissa of Silsbee and Talyon Ray Sangwin and wife Shelly of Kountze; brothers, George Edward Sangwin of Florida and Robert Doyle Sangwin of Dallas; sisters, Gloria Jean Lakey and Delories Wimberly, both of Silsbee, Dorothy Wright and Dottie McClelland, both of Kountze, and Karen Ard and Brenda Sangwin, both of Silsbee; and ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lucille DeVille

Lucille DeVille, 65, of Lumberton, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017.

Funeral service was Thursday, April 13 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home in Lumberton with burial following at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.

Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, she operated her own business, Lucy’s Personal Touch Beauty Salon in Poplarville, Mississippi for a time, then she went to work as a production worker for Helena Labs where she retired.

She is survived by her children, Shelley Pelt and husband Clinton of Beaumont and Shannon Davis and wife Brandy of Poplarville, Mississippi; sisters, Bertha Condon of Brookeland and Nancy Miller and husband Tommy of Woodville; and six grandchildren.

Patsy Sandefur

Patsy Louise Sandefur, 79, of Beaumont, passed away Saturday, April 15 at Lucas Place Assisted Living in Beaumont.

Funeral service was Tuesday, April 18 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at Cunningham Cemetery, also in Silsbee.

A native of Beaumont and a longtime resident of Lumberton, she was a homemaker and a retired beauty instructor with Lonnie’s Beauty School. Survivors include her husband, Donald Sandefur of Beaumont; daughters, Connie Danna and husband John of Kountze, Tina Garza and husband Gary of Deer Park and Beverly Hollyfield of Conroe; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Maxine Thomas

Maxine Rhone Thomas, 80, of Silsbee, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at St. Beulah Baptist Church in Silsbee under the direction of J.B. Coleman Memorial Mortuary in Silsbee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. the day of service at the church.

Survivors include her her husband of 60 years, Vernon Thomas Sr.; children, Terry Thomas Sr. (Arrilla), Edgar Thomas Sr. (Sherred), Vernell Thomas, Vernon Thomas Jr. and Vera McKenzie (stepdaughter); sisters, Velma Rhone and Florene Thomas (Grady); brother, Ratio Rhone (Brenda); and 15 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Heisner

Carolyn E. Heisner, 74, of Port Arthur, died Sunday, April 16, 2017. She was born on March 14, 1943, in Kountze, to Pauline Elizabeth Read Morgan and John D. Morgan.

Carolyn enjoyed her plants, trips to the casino, playing games, and drinking coffee with neighbors. She loved blowing bubbles with her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Michele Ayala of Port Arthur, Rose Heisner Rodriguez and her husband Henry of Nederland, and Connie Davis and her husband Rodney of Bridge City; sons, John Heisner and his wife Gena of Jefferson City, Missouri, George Heisner Jr. and fiancée Rachel Moore of Nederland, and Christian Heisner of Silsbee; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin Morgan and his wife Virgie of Silsbee and Jerry Morgan of Kountze; and sister, Doretha Crawford and her husband Mert of Fred.

Don Sonnier

Donald James “Don” Sonnier, 84, of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Silsbee Convalescent Center in Silsbee. Funeral service was Monday, April 10 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Lumberton with burial following at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. Born in Port Arthur, he was employed by three local banks for a total of 26 years, plus four years at the Beaumont Rice Mill. After leaving banking in 1982, he became an auctioneer and he and his wife, Jo Ann, operated Don’s Auctions for four years. At the same time the conducted Remember When Estate Sales in the area for 22 years. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Wood Sterling Sonnier; children, Donald J. “Donnie” Sonnier Jr. and Beverly Moxley, Dr. Leo “Butch” Sonnier and wife Kathy, and Margaret Breaux and husband David, all of Austin, Mary Louise Pearce and husband Tim of Sugar Land and Tom Sonnier of Dallas; stepson, Gary L.

Ginger George

Virginia Kay “Ginger” George, 71, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin. Funeral service was Saturday, April 8 at the First Baptist Church in Kountze with burial following at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze. Survivors include her husband, Tommie George; daughter, Rhonda Castro of Dickinson; brother, Jimmy Lynn Dempsey and wife Martha of Dallas; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Parsons

Elizabeth Ann “Granny” Parsons, 81, of Lumberton, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at her home. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15 at the First Baptist Church in Lumberton. Born in Chilton, she was an office manager for Hertz Rent a Car, she worked for Brown and Root and Harris County Probation Office, then finally she was a greeter at the Lumberton Walmart. She served as a volunteer at Lumberton Elementary, where she received the Volunteer of the Year Award. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Crosby, Texas, Chapter 61. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Earl Parsons of Lumberton; son, Clifford Earl “Cliff” Parsons Jr. of Beaumont; daughter, Teresa Parsons of Kailua, Hawaii; brothers, Robert Clowers and wife Marlene of Galena Park and Larry Clowers of Clear Lake; and one grandchild and two step-grandchildren. Lee Loftin

Lee Loftin, 68, of Kountze, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Silsbee Convalescent Center in Silsbee. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13 at Cunningham Cemetery in Silsbee under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Born in Silsbee, he was a longtime resident of this area and was a sawmill worker before retiring. Survivors include his sisters, Ollie Mae Ewing of Kountze, Geneva Hutchinson of Carthage, and Shirley Gore of South Carolina.
