R.E. Herring

R.E. Herring, 91, of Lumberton, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home. Funeral service was at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 13) at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. He retired from 4th Street Auto in Beaumont, and for many years, he was a self-employed machinist in Jasper. He was also a World War II veteran, having served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Patsy Herring; children, Ronald E. Herring and wife Gail of Troup, Roger D. Herring and wife Jan of Beaumont and Marilyn Glaser and husband Dan of Yakima, Washington; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Josephine Crain

Josephine O’Quinn Crain, 79, of Silsbee, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday December 8, 2017. She always put her family first. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved to travel and visited every state in the United States, except Hawaii. She also liked to shop and take pictures, she took thousands of pictures of family and friends. She also loved her church family very much. She enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flower beds, and baking during the holidays and family get-togethers. Christmas-time was her favorite time of the year, she would decorate her entire house from top to bottom. She collected Christmas Village Houses and had 314 that she would display. She was the matriarch and center of her family. She was always there for everybody and would come running when you called.

Letisha M. “Tish” Boykin, 51, of Kountze, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14 at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Silsbee. Cremation was under the direction of Robinson Funeral Home in Silsbee. Born in Silsbee, she was a housewife. Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Boykin of Kountze; daughter, Latera Whitmore and husband De- John of Kountze; son, Kendrick Sapp of Silsbee; sister, Suwartha Maze of Zowelle; brothers, Fredrick Maze and wife Ronnie and Marcus Maze, all of Zowelle; and five grandchildren.

Sammy Humble

Sammy Humble, 70, of Silsbee, died Thursday, November 30, 2017. He was born on August 12, 1947, in Silsbee, to Billie Jean Lindsey Humble and Sam Fairchild Humble, Jr. Sammy proudly served his country in the United States Army and later worked as an instrument tech for Brown and Root. Survivors include his wife of forty- seven years, Sharon Humble; children, Sean Humble and his wife, Ami, of Buna and Shama Harris and her husband, Raymond, of Silsbee; grandsons, Tanner Humble and his imminent spouse, Mackenzie, and Blake Humble, all of Silsbee; granddaughters, Hudsyn Humble, of St. Louis, Michigan and Carmyn Harris, of Silsbee; great-grandson, Tripp Fairchild Humble; brother, Robert Humble; sisters, Brenda Goats, Beverly Baumann, Debbie Goins, and Jeannette Ard; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving pets, dog, Tex and cat, John Wick. Sammy is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Michael Wayne Humble.

Shirley Norman 81, of Silsbee, Texas passed away November 28, 2017. Services will be December 9, 2017 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 420 S. 10th Street, Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 11a.m. until funeral at 12 noon. Interment will be in Kirby Cemetery, Silsbee. A gathering of family and friends for the repass will be at the YYAFA Center, 170 Hwy. Jean Sanders

Jean Walker-Sanders, 83 of Buna, Texas died Sunday, December 3, 2017. A native of Taylorsville, Mississippi, she loved cooking, gardening and doing yard work. Jean also liked to hunt and fish but she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Jean is survived by one daughter, Karolyn Carpenter and her husband Thomas of Buna; two sons, Alton Sanders and his wife Cheryl of Orange Park, Florida and Jimmy Sanders and his lifelong friend Melinda Riley of Silsbee. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Sanders of Vidor; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Sanders; one son, David Sanders; and two grandchildren, Lee and Shanna Sanders. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

Betty Jo McIntosh, 87, of Kountze, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017. Funeral service was Saturday, December 2 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville. She had lived in Kountze since 1972 and was a member of the Eastern Star, Vidor Chapter. Survivors include daughters, Barbara McEwin of Lumberton and Mia Michelle Thompson and husband Troy of Roundrock; son, Jacky Lee McIntosh of Clearwater, Florida; and four grandchildren.

Curtis Scherry Jr.

Curtis Scherry Jr., 86, of Warren, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017. Funeral service was Tuesday, December 5 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze with burial following at Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze. Born in Oakhurst, he retired as a boilermaker from Neches Butane in 1993 and was a United States Army Korean War veteran. Survivors include his children, Shannon Scherry of Beaumont, Brad Lee Scherry and wife Barbara of Groves, WK. “Bill” Perkins Jr. and wife Delbra of Livingston and Tim Perkins and wife Maggie and Sue Clement, all of Tylertown, Mississippi; and 16 grandchildren, 23 great- randchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Martin McKinney

Martin McKinney, 94, of Silsbee, passed away on Saturday, December. 4, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Martin was born in Melvid, Texas, on Jan. 28, 1923, to Albert and Myra McKinney. Martin proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a SSGT in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. A life-long resident of Silsbee, he made many contributions to the community as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Federation of Eagle Local 777, Crystal Beach and Knights of Pythius. He was also a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Silsbee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Myra McKinney; wife, Nena McKinney; brothers, Peroy McKinney, Phillip McKinney and Albert McKinney; sisters, Edna Denson, Edith Strickland, Martha Booth and Myra Wedgeworth.

Marscine Simmons

The sunrise of Marscine Edward Simmons was in Cedar Grove, Newton County, Texas on April 24, 1925, to parents Elder James Edwards Simmons and Cora Molly Simmons. Marscine’s sunset was Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the age of 92 years. He was a member of Simon Memorial Church of God in Christ where he was Head Deacon. He retired from Santa Fe Railroad with 39 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Essie Mae Simmons; one daughter, Patricia Simmons; six sisters, Pretha Bowie, Ocia Grace, Ona Cooper, Alvilda Scruggs, Elma Sells, and Pauline Coney; and six brothers, Causie Simmons, Alcie Simmons, Elder B.C.
