Ima Flowers

Ima Jean Flowers, 70, of Woodville, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born in Silsbee to Will and Evie Hooks, she was a longtime resident of Saratoga before moving to Woodville. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Guy Wayne Flowers: daughters, LaJeana Ann Roberts and husband Michael of Groves and Janie Waynette Leger and husband Grady of Dam B; brother, Norman Hooks of Silsbee; sisters, Dorothy Lavone Gordon of Austin and Eva Weeks of Silsbee; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were private at the family’s request.

Charles Reed

Charles O. Reed, 76, of Silsbee, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. A memorial will be held in Belton, Texas. He was an environmental engineer. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Reed of Silsbee; children, Chris Reed and wife Lydia of Bryan, Michael Reed of Beaumont and Charles Reed IV of Virginia; sister, Pat Jackson and husband Don of Belton; and two grandchildren.

Richard Parker

Richard M. Parker, 52, of Silsbee, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24 at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Lumberton. A private family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium in Beaumont. Survivors include his wife, Christian Jordan Parker of Silsbee; son, Joseph Dailey of Austin; daughters, Anne- Marie McGreevy and husband Sean of Beaumont and Theresa Parker of Silsbee; sister, Nannette McMillion of Beaumont; mother, Nellie Parker of Beaumont; and one grandchild.

Jesse Gay

Jesse Melton Gay, 61, of Kountze, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, February 14) at Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze with burial following at McKinney Cemetery in Kountze. Born in Beaumont, he was a United States Navy veteran, and retired from Pilgrim Construction. Survivors include his mother, Doris McCauley Gay Burnett of Kountze; son, Jeffrey Wayne Lewis and wife Alicia of Beaumont; sister, Sherry Gay Dunegan and husband Bob of Cleveland; brother, La’Don Burnett of Kountze; half-sister, Dorthey Ann Gay of Beaumont; and brothers, Dale McNeely, Mark McNeely, Bryan McNeely and Butch McNeely, all of Kountze.

Wilbert Sells

Wilbert Sells, 83, of Kountze, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018. Funeral service was Saturday, February 9 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Kountze under the direction of Coleman’s Family Mortuary in Woodville.Born in Honey Island, he began for working for Kirby Lumber at the age of 12; was later hired as a forklift driver  for many years for Allen Peavy Lumber until they closed. He then went back to Kirby Lumber where he worked as a foreman until they shut down in 1986. He then went to work at Market Basket until Hurricane Katrina caused it to close. He then found himself working at Taco Bell where he was named the “cleaning captain” until he health began to decline. Survivors include daughters, Doris McDaniel of Kountze, Geneva Burgess of Houston, Ethel Bush of Tomball, Janis Isaac of Citrus Height, California, Shernell Sells of South Carolina, Myra Howard and husband Milton of San Antonio, and Amanda McCrue and husband Robert of Beaumont; sons, Wilbert C.

Mae Alice Lavespere, 86, of Lumberton; passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service was Tuesday, February 13 at Abundant Life Church in Silsbee with burial at Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze. Survivors include her children, Jimmy Lavespere and wife Melissa of Port Neches and Sandra West of Sour Lake; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bertram Earl “Sonny” Carpenter Jr., 71, of Silsbee, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Funeral service was Saturday, February 10 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium in Beaumont with burial at a late date in Palestine. Born in Beaumont, he had a 40-year career as a registered nurse in surgery. Survivors include his wife, Martha Carpenter; children, Christy Arney Baldwin and husband Parker of Cameron, Kimberly Soileau and husband Lee of Lumberton and Cody Carpenter and wife Alicia of Margate, Florida; brother, Ron Carpenter of Silsbee; sister, Gayle Mc- Clusky and husband Kevin of Silsbee; and five grandchildren.

Robert Herbst

Robert Miles “Bob” Herbst, 90, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018. Funeral service was Sunday, February 11 at First United Methodist Church in Silsbee with burial following at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. Born in Jasper, he was a United States Army veteran. He was a math and science teacher and coach at Jasper High School and retired from Temple-Inland Papermill in Evadale. Survivors include his sons, Randy Herbst and wife Debbie of Jasper and Rusty Herbst and wife Robin of Hudson; brother, Tom Herbst and wife Iris of Jasper; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

Tommy Overstreet

Tommy Gene Overstreet, 63, of Kountze, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018. He was born on March 8, 1954, in Keiserslautern, Germany to Myrtis Irene Benefield and Steve Jackson Overstreet, Sr. Tommy retired from the paper mill in Evadale as a shipping clerk. Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Sharon Overstreet; son, Danny Gene Overstreet and his wife, Laci, of Honey Island; brother, Steve Overstreet, Jr., of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews; and step-mother, Mary Ann Overstreet of Kountze. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; and his stepsister, Edna Lafferty. A gathering of Mr. Overstreet’s family and friends was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. His funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2018, at Broussard’s, with his interment following at Jordan Cemetery, Honey Island.
