Jeannie Stephens

Mass of Christian Burial for Jeanne “Gertie” Stephens, 92, of Gilmer was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Longview with Msgr. Xavier Pappu officiating. A Rosary was recited Friday, November 10, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. Visitation followed from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Interment was held at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. Mrs. Stephens passed away on Wednesday, November 08, 2017 in Gilmer, Texas. Jeanne was born to Martinus Wolfs and Francisca Henriette on April 5, 1925 in Nuth, Holland. Jeanne married Arlyn Stephens on December 29, 1944 in Heern, Holland and worked for Ragland, Fenlaw, Ford Clinic as a receptionist for many years. Mrs. Stephens was also a member of the St. Matthews Catholic Church. Jeanne is survived by sons, Alexander Michael Stephens and wife Gayle of Kountze, Robert Patrick Stephens of Vineland, New Jersey, and Arlyn L. Stephens, Jr.

Verdois Savoy

Verdois Alexander Savoy, 89, of Lumberton, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care in Nederland. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, November 8) at The Apostolic Church in Beaumont with burial following at Creel Memorial Gardens in Reeves, Louisiana under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont. Survivors include his daughter, Karen Hughes and husabnd Carolos of Lumberton; sister, Audrey Alexander of Kinder, Louisiana; and one grandchild two great-grandchildren.

Sherry Lynn Jones Grissom, 68, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away Sunday, November 5 at The Crossing@Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, November 8) at Beech Creek Baptist Church in Spurger with burial following in Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Born in Silsbee, she was a longtime resident of Addis, Louisiana before moving to Baton Rouge. She was a retired caretaker. Survivors include son, Christopher Grissom of Brusly, Louisiana; daughters, Shawna Gardiner and husband Dan of Baton Rouge and Whitney Prudhomme and husband James of Addis; brothers, Charles Jones of San Diego and Mike Jones of Beaumont; sisters, Jeannette Welch of San Diego, Audrey McDonald of Vidor and Stacey Posey of Hamshire; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Wayne Courts, 74, of Kountze, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017. Funeral service was Saturday, November 4 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. His committal was held at Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont. Born in Beaumont, he was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Cuba Missile Crisis and later worked as a supervisor with Lyondell Chemical. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Courts; son, Brandon Courts of Kountze and Eric Courts and wife Cindy of Princeton; sister, Jimmie Prejean and husband Joseph Amar of Magnolia; and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Emigene “Kathy” Kathryn Bouse, 67, of Silsbee was at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following at Fred Community Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bouse passed away November 3, 2017 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Kathy was a native of Graham, Oklahoma and a longtime resident of the area. She was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her father, Avery Morrow; mother, Jinnie Bee Smith; husband, Jimmy Tyler Bouse: granddaughter, Dannielle Black; and nephew, Johnny Langton.

Survivors include son, John R. Plake III and wife Sherry of Lumberton; daughters, Anna Dechert and husband Clyde of Silt, Colorado and Karla Buffalow and husband Don of Lumberton; sister, Emogene Stanley of Kirbyville; and eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

David Glenn Matkin, 78, of Kountze, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Born in Beaumont, he retired as a supervisor at Mason Construction in Beaumont. Survivors include his children, Michael David Matkin and Marleen Ladd Grissom, both of Kountze; sister, Barbra Ann Carnley of Beaumont; and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A private family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Grace Dominy

Funeral services for Grace Alice Dominy, 104, of Silsbee was at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following at Baker Bell Cemetery in Fred. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dominy passed away November 2, 2017 at Spanish Trails Assisted Living in Silsbee. Grace was born August 24, 1913 in Fred, to Edward and Emme Hutto Bell. She was a long-time resident of Silsbee and a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Mrs. Dominy was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil A. Dominy; son, James Dominy; brothers, A.V. Bell, Ellis Britton Bell, and James Frank Bell; sister, Willrie Carnley; son-in-law, Bill Jasper, and grandson, James Steven Dominy.

Gary Mathis Jr., 48, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his home. A native and longtime resident of Silsbee, he worked in maintenance for SISD for 24 years. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Mathis of Silsbee; son, Gary “Tray” Mathis III of Rockwall; father, Gary Mathis Sr. of Evadale; step-children, Ashley Viator of Silsbee, Sarah Pelt of Arlington, Andrew Pelt of Tyler, Jesse Pelt of Nederland, Josh Pelt of Silsbee, Len Williams Jr. of Lumberton, and Veronica Williams of Silsbee; sisters, Debra Sumner, Jean Ray Mc- Clelland, and Cathy Perry, all of Silsbee, Christy Prewitt of Buna and Mary Beth Mathis of Arizona; brothers, Jeff Clowers of Spurger and Raymond Glenn Hooks of Shephard; and 21 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Henry Robert Martin, 82, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his home. Funeral service was Tuesday, October 31 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee. Born in Call, he was a lifelong resident of Silsbee and was a United States Army veteran. He was a carpenter before retiring. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
