Tigers defeat Yates and LeVega to advance Texas 4A State Tournament

The Silsbee Tigers played in the Regional Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday defeating Waco LeVega by a 93-52 score and Houston Yates by a 94-84.

The two game tournament offered moments of delight and moments of great emotion, but they never offered a moment in which the Tigers trailed their opponent.

The experience left a teary eyed coach, who has seen it all in over 35 years of coaching sobbing that the players, the fans, the administration combined to make this an emotional experience.

In the first game, the Tigers opened with a 22-0 scoring streak and Silsbee led 22-0 at the end of the first period. Seven different Tigers scored as the Tigers jumped to the lead which left Coach David Drafahl of LeVega ranting on the sidelines.

Tigers score 255 points in pair of wins over Hamshire Fannett and Orangefield

The Silsbee Tigers won a pair of games last week, 124- 37 over Hamshire Fannett and 131-47 over Orangefield. The one sided nature of the games is largely because Silsbee has the strongest group of players in the district. The situation is that not only is the Tigers first unit strong but their second unit would probably be the second best unit in the district if they played in another uniform.
