Sharks stun Silsbee, 37-15

ALVIN — The Silsbee Tigers made the long trip to Alvin Memorial Stadium to play the Shadow Creek Sharks on their homecoming night on Oct. 6.

The Tigers left with a 37-15 loss in their final non-district game this season.

Silsbee had suffered through a rash of injuries and illnesses that left them a shadow of what they wanted to be at the start of the game. This was not the way they planned to play the game but they determined to put their best foot forward and give Shadow Creek all that they could handle.

Kirbyville holds on for 36-32 win over Kountze

KOUNTZE — The Kirbyville Wildcats held off a late Kountze Lions’ rally and held on for a thrilling 36-32 win in the District 11-3A opener for both teams.

The Lions’ Keshawn Adams scored on a 7-yard run then ran for the two-point conversion to pull to within four of the Wildcats’ 36-32 lead with 31 seconds left in the game.

Kountze recovered the onside kick but was unable to complete the comeback attempt.

WO-S spoils Tigers’ homecoming with 34-17 win

Silsbee Tigers’ game against West Orange-Stark included a little bit of everything.

The Mustangs came into the game as one of the top-ranked teams in Class 4A, along with a 29-game winning streak.

Silsbee was celebrating homecoming with their eyes set on ending the Mustangs’ long winning streak.

Silsbee boys capture first place at Lumberton meet

LUMBERTON — The Silsbee boys captured first place in the Division 2 5,000-meter run Sept. 23 at the Lumberton Cross Country Meet at the City Park.

Five of the Tiger runners finished among the top 20 finishers — nine in the top 10. Silsbee finished with 33 points, Bridge City was second with 50 and Hamshire- Fannett third with 85.

Rebels use big plays for win

SARATOGA — The Evadale Rebels used big plays for a 40-10 non-district win over the West Hardin Oiler on Sept. 22.

After the opening kickoff, the Rebels’ Coy Williams broke losose for a 54-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.

Williams ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead with 11:42 left in the first quarter.

Rebels’ late TD clinches win in River Bowl

EVADALE – Tyler Torres threw a 29- yard touchdown pass to Coy Williams late in the fourth quarter as the Evadale Rebels edged the Deweyville Pirates, 16-13, in the annual River Bowl showdown.

Both teams scored in the first quarter as the Pirates took a 13-8 lead.

Evadale took an 8-0 lead on their first possession.

Tigers overcome 16-point deficit for 30-23 victory over rival Jasper

JASPER – Running back Adonis Thomas scored on a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter to give the Silsbee Tigers a 30-23 comefrom- behind non-district win over the Jasper Bulldogs on Sept. 15.

Silsbee had to overcome a 16- point deficit after the Bulldogs took a 23-7 lead on running back Jerkerion Simmons’s 2-yard touchdown run with 10:35 left in the third quarter.

But the Tigers scored two touchdowns in a three-minute span to tie the game, 23-23, with 3:29 left in the third.

Tigers faces longtime rival Jasper on the road

The Silsbee Tigers will travel to Jasper to play their biggest rivals —the Jasper Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 15.

Jasper finished last year with a 10-3 record and one of their losses was to Silsbee 20-19. This game figures be a fight between the cats and dogs. Last week, Class 4A Jasper played Class 5A Crosby in a close 41-34 game.

Tigers fall to Newton in season opener, 41-17

NEWTON – The Silsbee Tigers opened their 2017 football season a week late and at times appeared to still be missing their offensive unit.

The Tigers left with a 41-17 non-district loss.

The Tigers took the opening kick and after a short return had the ball at their own 17 yard lines. Back-to-back penalties on the Newton sidelines moved the ball to the 40- yard line.

Kountze Lions to host Beaumont Kelly Friday

The Kountze Lions are back practicing and plan to play Beaumont Kelly in a non-district tilt on Friday, Sept. 8.

Coach Duane Joubert reported he has nearly all of his players back practicing and he is looking forward to the season opener.

There are some complications about the location of the game.
