Highlanders nip Tigers, 67-63

THE WOODLANDS — The Silsbee Tigers played poor defense as Class 6A The Woodland pulled off a 67-63 non-district win at home on Jan 2.

Silsbee seemed slow to get out on defense which allowed the Highlanders to popped in nine three-point baskets — most were uncontested.

Both teams started off the game slowly with The Woodlands hitting a pair of threes for a 10-4 margin. Jordyn Adam’s three-pointer in the final second of the first period tied the game, 10-10.

Lady Tigers beat Hudson at home

Dakota Matthews scored a game-high 21 as the Silsbee Lady Tigers posted a 77-42 home win over Hudson in non-district action on Jan. 2.

Matthews, who had seven points in the first half, scored 14 in the second half — including a pair of three-point buckets.

The Lady Tigers built a 12-4 lead at the end of the first inning, then outscored Hudson, 23-11, in the second for a 35-15 margin at halftime.

Tigers record 2-1 mark at Coca-Cola Classic

DALLAS — The Silsbee Tigers posted a 2-1 mark at the annual Dallas ISD Coca- Cola Classic on Dec. 27-29.

The Tigers started off with a convincing 78-39 win over Class 6A Dallas Adamson. Silsbee opened up the game with a 25-0 run and finished the opening period ahead, 25-6.

Dallas Adamson was unable to catch up as the Tigers went into intermission with a 32-point lead.

Brealon Bush hit a team-high 15 markers, while Kalon Barnes netted 13 with 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Silsbee holds off Lady Raiders’ late rally for win

LUMBERTON — The Silsbee Lady Tigers defeated the Lumberton Lady Raiders, 99- 93, in non-district action on Dec. 19.

The game started out like a house on fire but ended up in a shootout.

Megan Wilkinson and Kayden Morris combined for 29 points as the Lady Raiders held a 31-29 lead at the end of the opening period. Wilkinson hit 19 and Morris had 10.

Center upsets Tigers, 76-74

CENTER — Jaterious Evans hit two free throws with 15.3 seconds left as the Center Roughriders upset the No. 1-ranked Silsbee Tigers, 76- 74, before a packed crowd on Dec. 19.

The win was not certain, not even in the final seconds. In fact, the final 15 seconds took nearly four minutes to complete.

Six-foot-5 Reggie Daniels’ block of Kalon Barnes’ shot at the rim started the transition that led to Evans being fouled and going to the line for two.

Lady Tigers thrash Hargrave, 90-25 Four Lady Tigers tallied in double figures for a 90-25 thrashing

Four Lady Tigers tallied in double figures for a 90-25 thrashing of Huffman Hargrave at home in non-district action on Dec. 15. Silsbee dropped in four three-pointers in the opening period for a 21-6 lead. With scoring another 21 points in the second, the Lady Tigers went into intermission with a commanding 42- 13 margin.

The Lady Tigers finished 10 three-pointers with T’Nya Irvin and Carley Jones each hitting three apiece. Irvin tossed in a game-high 17 markers and Jones had 12. Ahlayia Henry chipped in 13 and Brandin Bass had 10. Datoka Matthews and Emery Maze finished with nine apiece. Silsbee held the Lady Falcons to single-digit scoring in each of the four periods.

Lions fall to Diboll in OT, 84-78

KOUNTZE — The Kountze Lions dropped an overtime game as the Diboll Lumberjacks claimed a 84-78 non-district win in the Lions Dens on Dec. 15. Both teams were tied, 66- 66, at regulation. The Lumberjacks scored 18 points in the extra period.

The Lions’ Dallion Edwards returned to the court after suffering a back injury earlier in the season. JaQuade Warren dropped in a couple of three-pointers as the Lions took a 22-14 lead to end the opening period. Dante Carey and Jeremiah Barker hit five each in the first.

Silsbee girls, Lionetttes win tournament titles

ANAHUAC — Emery Maze had a team-high 21 points with 14 rebounds as the Silsbee Lady Tigers won the championship game over Anahuac, 68-41, on Dec. 9.

Silsbee advanced to the title game with a 66-48 win over Hardin on Dec. 8.

Brandis Bass led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Carley Jones chipped in 17 points — including five three-pointers.

Maze finished with 10 points, four boards, four steals and a block.

Tigers explode for 25-0 run in third for win over Ozen

In the Dec. 5 home game against the Beaumont Ozen Panthers, Silsbee head coach Joe Sigler faced an unusual situation as the Tigers entered their eighth game of the season.

He suddenly had an influx of players.

The Tigers’ roster that hit the floor included seven players who were straight off the football field and with one  practice behind them.

“I did not tell them (the players) but I tried to script the first half,” said Sigler. “I have got to know that I won't be afraid to put them in the game (speaking of the football players that just joined the basketball team).”

Lady Tigers capture consolation title at YMBL/BISD Shootout

BEAUMONT — The Silsbee Lady Tigers defeated Laundry Walker of New Orleans, 61-51, for the girls’ consolation championship at the annual YMBL/Beaumont ISD South Texas Shootout on Dec. 2 at the McDonald Gymnasium on the Lamar University campus.

Emily Maze led Silsbee with a team-high 18 points along with five rebounds, a steal and assist, while Dakota Matthews hit 14 markers with two steals.

Maze and Matthews were named to the all-tournament team.
