With perfect weather on tap, the 2022 Wildlife & Recreational Management Career Development Event took place at the Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center. The contest, sponsored by the Lower Neches Soil & Water Conservation District of Hardin County, is an annual education event for high school students and would not be possible without the very generous use of this facility. The contest was held on Wednesday, October 5. Hardin County, normally has a pretty good showing, but only Kountze participated this year. Total entries this year consisted of 141 contestants from 20 school districts across the East Texas area. They met at the Visitor Center to compete in a four-part test of their knowledge of wildlife and conservation subjects.
