City Council highlights improvements

Kountze- In a regularly scheduled meeting of the Kountze City Council held on Thursday, September 15, the Kountze EDC gave a detailed report of some of the improvements that are in the works. One such improvements is the Christmas lights project. The plan is to have lights added in two phases: the Courthouse and down Hwy 69. The Courthouse will be completed first, then down the highway because some infrastructure, such as replacing poles, needs to take place down the highway to be able to hang lights safely.

Help for homeless in Hardin Co.

How many people are homeless in Hardin County? That is a tough question to answer. When counting the homeless population, only those that can be physically seen are counted. Plus, the numbers for Hardin County are lumped together with Jefferson and Orange County.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Commerce Committee, successfully offered eight amendments to the Coast Guard Authorization Act, including but not limited to the Military to Mariners Act, legislation that mandates real- time data sharing between U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (USCBP) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), legislation that would mandate the acquisition of enhanced surveillance capabilities for the southern maritime boundary, and legislation that would explore the creation of a Coast Guard facility at Port Mansfield.

State housing agency awards nearly $80 million in tax credits

(AUSTIN) — The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has awarded nearly $80 million in housing tax awards in July that will help finance the development or rehabilitation of 61 rental properties throughout the state, offering reduced rents and increased housing options throughout the state. Awards provided through the 2022 Competitive (9%) Housing Tax Credit (HTC) Program allocation will help developers construct or rehabilitate a total of 4,024 units offering rents affordable to households earning up to 80 percent of the area median family income.
