Some people would look at this saying. Beginning and Passing, and conclude we are talking about “introduction and completion,” “starting and stopping,” “opening and closing.” However, as we look deeper it can have many different meanings and pertain to different situations.

The United States of America is proud to have one of the strongest, if not the strongest, militaries in the world. Whether serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or whatever, the men and women who serve are providing a wonderful service to their country.

Few World War vets are still alive

Every day, memories of World War II are disappearing from living history. The men and women who fought and won this great conflict are now in their 90s or older; according to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 119,550 of the 16.1 million Americans who served in World War II are alive as of 2023.

Navy man Tyrone was hurt when small boat fell 60 feet

Trish Fisher, who lives in Lumberton, wrote this about her father, Ray Tyrone, who now lives near Kountze: My Dad, Ray Tyrone, was born in May of 1932 in Chicago, Il. He graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago and then enlisted in the US Navy about a year later, on January 15th, 1951. After Boot Camp, he was initially assigned to the US Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA where he served as an Engineman. In August of 1952, he was assigned to the warship cruiser, the USS Newport News, which was in commission as part of the Sixth Fleet out of Norfolk from 1950 to 1962.

Most SISD voters reject school bonds proposal

The majority of the voters who voted early or who voted Tuesday at Silsbee City Hall voted against an $84.5 school bonds proposal which would have been used for a wide variety of projects, including construction of new schools and renovation of older schools.

Historic Holidays on the Square Nov. 18 in downtown Kountze

The holidays are among us, and the Kountze Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 2nd Annual Historic Holidays on The Square Festival on November 18 from 10am to 4pm. “The Square” is in the Historic District which includes the Kirby-Hill House, the Historical Museum, County Seat Music Hall, the Kountze Library and the Kountze Police Station.

The American Poolplayers Association (APA) was formed in 1981 by professional pool players Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart. The organization has nearly 250,000 players in the USA, Canada, Japan and Singapore and is the largest of its kind in the world.

Friends of Kountze Public Library will sponsor seasonal programs

Sinceitsfoundingin1998, the Friends of Kountze Public Library have supported the local, rural library with materials and services not provided through the City of Kountze’s budget. The Friends meet monthly to organize projects and analyze the success of planning efforts. Participants in library events are counted and library staff regularly record books and other resources utilized. At this time approximately 7,667 patrons are eligible for free services at the library with the use of their library card.
