Elton Irvin Sr., was World War II veteran from Silsbee. Irvin was the oldest of three brothers that enlisted into the military. He completed basic training at the Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Maryland, on June 7, 1945. He was assigned to Naval Ship o’Hare 889 and completed duty. The veteran sailor returned to Silsbee. He worked on several jobs before establishing his own business, Irvin Drive-Inn. In 1977, Irvin was elected the first black city councilman in Silsbee.
