Swamp Pop music event to be Oct. 20 in Beaumont

The McFaddin-Ward House and Lamar University’s Center for History and Culture of Southeast Texas and the Upper Gulf Coast are hosting a unique outdoor event exploring the history and sounds of swamp pop music on Friday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. on the museum’s lawn (located at 1906 McFaddin Avenue in Beaumont).

Solar eclipse viewing, anniversary celebration planned at Big Thicket

KOUNTZE, Texas – The public is invited to come to Big Thicket National Preserve on Saturday, October 14, to watch a solar eclipse and celebrate the preserve’s 49th anniversary. The free event features solar-filtered telescopes and eclipse glasses for safe viewing, ranger programs, and a sneak peek at he 50th anniversary celebrations planned for 2024.

We all know someone who has heard the words, “You have cancer,” and many of us have faced a diagnosis ourselves. As a caregiver and someone who has lost too many family members and friends, I traveled to Washington, D.C., September 17-20, to let my voice be heard and to call on Congress to make investments in cancer research a top priority.
