TROUPE PERFORMS AT SES

More than 1,400 students, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade attended the production which was adapted by Katie Mitchell for four sessions. The troupe is from Main Street Theater in Houston. It was sponsored by the Performing and Visual Arts Council (PVAC) of Silsbee.

Residents were decorated by staff members and threw beads while jazzing it up to some Zydeco music. John Haven (right) and Norine Bunner were crowned as King and Queen of the festivities. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed king cake and punch.

Harley Jo Perkins of Kountze (left) will compete collegiately next year for the Sam Houston State University Rodeo Team. Perkins is pictured with SHSU Rodeo coach Edward “Bubba” Miller. Perkins will graduate from Christian Academy of America Homeschool Program in the Spring. She won the 2018 and 2019 Texas High School Rodeo Association’s (THSRA) Region V barrel racing titles, won the 2019 Halletsville Invitational rodeo barrel racing title and is the reserve 2019 barrel racing champion at the International Finals Youth Rodeo. IFYR. Perkins, the daughter of Nacona and Ryan Perkins, will barrel race at SHSU.

Governor announces School Safety Research Survey by SHSU

AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott recently announced the launch of the School Safety and Victims' Services Research Survey for educators across the state of Texas. This survey, administered by Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University (TSSC), will glean information on school preparedness during, before, and after crises such as active shooter situations or natural disasters.
