Seven queens crowned at Miss Silsbee Pageant

The 5th Annual Miss Silsbee Scholarship Pageant was held Saturday, August 5, and seven new queens were crowned who will represent the Silsbee community for the coming year. The queens who were crowned were Kollyn Baker, Little Miss; Kerstin Wright, Young Miss; Laikyn Ferguson, Pre-Teen Miss; Payton Gill, Miss Silsbee; Layla Holmes, Teen Miss; Bryelle Martin, Junior Miss; and Karsyn Baker, Mini Miss.

County budget, tax rate hearings are scheduled

The proposed county budget for FY 2024 is about $1.4 million more than in FY 2023, but the tax rate is expected to remain the same. The Hardin County Commissioners Court Tuesday morning set 9 a.m.

Summer Reading Program ends with great party, fun

The Silsbee Public Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program came to an exciting end last Saturday as kids and parents gathered under the pavilion across from the library for a party. The event included getting into the foam, winning prizes and enjoying great food treats such as snow cones and pizza.

Texas Silver-Haired Legislature Begins 20th Term

Mary Nixon and Ira Wilsker from Beaumont were sworn in as members of the 20th Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) at its Orientation Session held July 16-20. Seventy-one delegates from 23 of the 28 Area Agency on Aging regions in Texas were sworn in at the Texas State Capitol for a two-year term by the Honorable Gary Van-Deaver, member of the Texas House of Representatives from New Boston, Texas.
