Parents warned about new rule

A letter to parents being sent out by the Silsbee Independent School district warns that students using or delivering drugs will be removed to a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP). The letter reads as follows: Dear Parents/Guardians, We want to bring to your attention House Bill 114 (HB114), recently passed legislation related to vaping offenses and mandatory removals.

Suspect, 17, is arrested in shooting at big party

A 17-year old Beaumont man was arrested in Beaumont last Thursday in connection with the July 14 shooting which occurred in the 300 block of South 14th Street in Silsbee. Police had gone to the address where there had been reports of several shots fired while a large party was in progress.

Police, Rangers asking help solving cold case

On July 28, 1988, Caroline Susan Bolen, 26, was found deceased in her home on Cooks Road in Silsbee. An extensive investigation was conducted by Silsbee Police and the Texas Rangers, at the time of the incident. This case has remained unsolved for 35 years.

Gift of Life provided free screenings for 60 men

Gift of Life and its medical partners provided PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood tests, primary care services and individual physician consultations for more than 60 medically underserved Southeast Texans at the Hardin County Health Department in Kountze. The organization ensured each man received a Jason’s Deli lunch, giveaways, a large box of food from the Southeast Texas Food Bank and a gift card.
