High school graduations Thursday

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday night, May 25th, for Silsbee, Kountze, Evadale and Lumberton high schools. About 158 are expected to receive diplomas at ceremonies at the Silsbee High School football stadium.

Beaumont man killed in motorcycle accident

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Hardin County. The preliminary DPS investigation indicates that at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, May 20, the driver of a 2019 Indian Chief motorcycle was traveling north and reportedly went down in the roadway about a half mile north of U.S. Highway 96 near Silsbee, skidding into the east ditch where it overturned.

SHS students to participate in ‘Nightingale Experience’

Three Silsbee High School students – Brooke Jeansonne, G’Kya Stimpson and Kennedy Lockhart – have been chosen to participate in the Nightingale Experience at Lamar University. They have been chosen based on their outstanding performance as a high school student after having expressed interest in a health care related profession.

Kountze City Council takes on a new look

The Kountze City Council took on a new look at its regular meeting last Thursday with the seating of two new council members and a new mayor pro tem. Jim Shirey, who defeated Mayor Pro Tem Mary Adams, and Barbara Greer who was unopposed and Glenn Matthews who was re-elected unopposed in the May 6 election took oaths of office early in the meeting.
