Vigil held remembering victims of child abuse

April is being designated as Child Abuse Awareness Month throughout the nation, but it is especially being noted in Hardin County and the region this year because of a large number of abused or neglected children in 2022, including two who died. Every city council in Hardin County and the Hardin County Commissioners Court passed resolutions proclaiming April to be Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Lucas Powell named finalist for Willie Ray Smith award

Lucas Powell, a junior at Lumberton High School, has been named as a finalist for the Willie Ray Smith award on offense. This is the second year that the quarterback has been named as a finalist and the he may well get another shot at it next year.

84 acres burn near Kountze

Body
A fire which started out as a control burn wound up burning about 84 acres of a wooded area north of Kountze last Saturday afternoon. Kountze firefighters were already involved in a control burn in Kountze when the call came in that a fire had gotten out of control, at least partly due to the high winds which had moved into the area.
