COVID causing concern in Hardin County

Silsbee Fire Chief Robin Jones warned the public that a variant of COVID is spreading in the area. One fireman tested positive this week and he is now out of action. Jones noted that people should be careful and get tested in the event they feel they might have symptons and do what they can to protect others.

Angelo State University Announces Fall 2022 Dean’s List

SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University in San Angelo has announced the students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2022 fall semester, including Brady Trotter of Kountze. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, fulltime undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Big Thicket National Preserve seeks assistance on exotic species removal

KOUNTZE – Due to an unexpected introduction of an exotic deer species, Axis deer, Big Thicket National Preserve is allowing hunters who already have a Big Sandy Creek Unit hunting permit to dispatch any Axis deer that they find. These deer are not native to southeast Texas and can outcompete the native White-Tail Deer for habitat and food. Big Thicket National Preserve does not have any more available permits for the Big Sandy Creek Unit.

Silsbee Country Club has sold and now is a business open to the public

Derek Billingsley, who owned the Honky Tonk for 15 years, stated, “Some friends of mine said that there was a good business opportunity available in town.” Billingsley, who came to Silsbee from Jasper, thought about how good Silsbee had been to him and decided to find out about the new opportunity. It turned out to be the Silsbee Country Club.
