$1.4 billion in pandemic food benefits for Texas families receives approval

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a fifth round of federal Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) food benefits for Texas families with children who temporarily lost access to federally funded summer meal programs due to COVID-19.

Silsbee clothing give-a-way

The First Missionary Baptist Church in Silsbee will be sponsoring a clothing give-a-way on November 26 at 625 North 2nd Street in Silsbee. There will be clothing items available for men, women, and children.

The City of Silsbee had its regular scheduled council meeting on November 14th. During the city manager reports, City Manager Dee Ann Zimmerman gave a report on the Wreaths Across American activity that will be held on December 17th.

Local Alabama-Coushatta tribe shares culture through dancing

Dancers from the Alabama- Coushatta Tribe were at West Hardin schools dancing and sharing a little about themselves and their culture on Thursday. The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has the oldest reservation in the state and it is located on approximately 10,200 acres in the Big Thicket of Deep East Texas.

ASSAULT IN PROGRESS STOPPED BY OFFICER

On Friday, November 18, 2022, at about 9:02 PM, Officer W. Tyler with the Silsbee Police Department was patrolling around the area of McDonalds when he heard a loud commotion. When Officer Tyler pulled into the parking lot to investigate the disturbance, a male, later identified as 28-year-old Elisha McMahon of Silsbee, took off running on foot. Officer Tyler pursued McMahon, caught him, and placed him under arrest.
