Silsbee set for state finals

Tigers get true test in Dallas Lincoln

The Silsbee Tigers punched its ticket to the 4A state finals on Friday after an 89-47 win over Levelland.

Silsbee (31-5) has made history winning its first state semifinals game,  and the Tigers have a chance to expand on that win, facing Dallas Lincoln today at 7 p.m.

The no. 1 Tigers looked loose on Friday, slowly dismantling the Lobos en route to a 42-point win, something the team has been used to this season.

Dallas Lincoln (23-14) defeated La Marque 62-59 on Friday afternoon after rallying in the second half.

Lincoln outscored La Marque 15-8 to open the third quarter and later tied the game 40-40 on a three-pointer at the 1:27 mark of the third.

Junior 6-4 guard Kortrijk Miles led Lincoln with 13 points, four steals and two blocks against La Marque.

Senior 6-4 forward Jabari Richardson followed with 10 points and five rebounds.

Silsbee had five players score in double figures against Levelland including Devon McCain with 16, Kalon Barnes with 15, Michael McCain with 12, and Jordyn Adams and Travious Grubbs each with 10.

Devon McCain and Barnes each finished with double-doubles in the game and each recorded 11 rebounds off of the boards.

Silsbee’s bread-and-butter is its press defense, and forced 16 Levelland turnovers and tallied that with 35 points off of turnovers, including 16 fast-break points.

Silsbee has averaged 87.9 points a game through the season and 96.1 points per game in the playoffs.

Lincoln has averaged 70.2 points a game thus far in the playoffs.

This is Dallas Lincoln’s eighth appearance in the state tournament and Silsbee’s sixth appearance.

A win for Silsbee would be its first state championship in basketball and any team sport for the school.

Starters for Silsbee against Levelland were G Devon McCain (6-1, fr.), G Jordyn Adams (6-2, fr.), F Dontre Thomas (6-1, sr.), G Ricky Maze (6-2, sr.) and  F Kalon Barnes (6-2, so.)

Subs for the five starters were G Bruce Newton (5-7, jr.), G Trajan Harris (6-2, jr.), F Michael McCain (6-2, jr.), G Travious Grubbs (6-1, sr.), and F Kolten Mackey (6-4, jr.).
