Driver escapes serious injury

A Silsbee man is lucky to be alive after the vehicle he was driving went airborne striking a utility pole in Silsbee on Thursday at around 1:15 p.m. Robert Brooke, 67, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after Silsbee Fire Rescue personnel extracted him from the crashed car. According to Silsbee police reports, Brooke was driving a 2010 Nissan Versa southbound on Lee Miller Road near Easy Street in Silsbee when the vehicle allegedly went off of the roadway, striking a culvert before going airborne about 20-feet in the air, snapping a utility pole in half. The vehicle landed up right under loose electrical power lines as Brooke remained trapped in the vehicle.
