Silsbee volleyball earns top spot in 22-4A

Lady Tigers will face Shepherd in first round on Tuesday

The Silsbee Lady Tigers earned the no. 1 seed in District 22-4A after a 3-1 match win over Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Friday in a tie-breaker game held in Buna.

Silsbee (34-4, 10-1 in District 22-4A) will head to the 4A playoffs and face Shepherd in a bidistrict match to be held at West Hardin High School on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.

No. 12 ranked Silsbee was looking to go unbeaten in the league standings however fell to Little Cypress-Mauriceville 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-9) on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the final district game of the season to end the regular season as co-district champions.

Despite taking a 2-1 game lead over LC-M in the match, the Lady Bears responded with two straight victories to force a tie in the district for first place after both had split the season.

The front net dominance of Mallorie Brooks, Brandis Bass and Symone Carmenar showed signs of another win for Silsbee and racked up a combined 44 kills against LC-M.

Defensively, Carmenar finished with six blocks, and Chelsea Mouton recorded four digs. Emery Maze, Evie Short, Brooks and Kennedy Sam each recorded three digs.

Sam finished with 30 assists in the match.

On Friday, both teams faced off in the first place tie-breaker and Silsbee came away with a match victory 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 24-26, 26-24).

Brooks and Carmenar finished with 13 kills each, and Short added 10 kills.

The team is leaving at 2:45 and fans are encouraged to line Texas 327 to cheer the team as they depart Silsbee to the playoff game.
