The Silsbee Garden Club wanted to do something special for its community, so one of the things they decided was to donate trees to the schools that wanted a tree for Arbor Day. After contacting the school and getting approval, a teacher each from Silsbee Middle School and Silsbee High School contacted Garden Club secretary Joy Martindale to inform her the type of trees they would like planted.

The Garden Club committee that was appointed for this task included Cynthia Roberts, Judy Erdman, Patsy Gerngross, Joy Martindale and Margaret Fox. The Silsbee Garden Club donated a river birch tree to the Silsbee Middle School and a pecan tree to the Silsbee High School. The trees were planted on Arbor Day — Friday, April 28.
