KOUNTZE — The Kirbyville Wildcats held off a late Kountze Lions’ rally and held on for a thrilling 36-32 win in the District 11-3A opener for both teams.

The Lions’ Keshawn Adams scored on a 7-yard run then ran for the two-point conversion to pull to within four of the Wildcats’ 36-32 lead with 31 seconds left in the game.

Kountze recovered the onside kick but was unable to complete the comeback attempt.
