Wilson named to 2A all-state team

EVADALE — Evadale High School junior Savannah Wilson was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Softball All-State Team for Class 2A.

Wilson, a right-handed pitcher, posted a 19-7 record with a 1.57 ERA. She pitched in 142.1 innings, allowed 77 hits while fanning 289 batters and walked 49.

Volunteering with food distribution

Volunteer Riley Martinez looks to place several boxes of cereal into the back of a vehicle as Toni Looper brings more food during the Hardin County Strong disaster relief food distribution at the old Kirby Elementary School gymnasium on June 26. The event was held in conjunction with South East Texas Food Bank with more than 60 volunteers. At one point, more than 120 vehicles were lined up along FM 418 waiting to be served.

Robert Allan Neyland

Robert Allan Neyland, 90, of Silsbee Texas, passed away on June 21, 2018 in Austin. He was born in Silsbee, on May 19, 1928 to Arch and Corrie Braswell Neyland. He graduated from Silsbee High School and The University of Texas at Austin with a business degree and returned to Silsbee to work in the family grocery and feed business. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He returned to Silsbee and married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Wilson in 1953. He founded Hardin County Savings and Loan in 1955, later renamed Hardin Savings. He served as President and Chairman of the Board until the firm was sold in 1984. After his retirement, he served as a Supervisory Agent for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for several years. Robert and Yvonne had two children, Susan and Wilson. He played a key role in Silsbee, serving in many leadership positions. He was instrumental in building Silsbee Doctors Hospital and was a charter member of the Silsbee Country Club.

Frank Arthur Chaney Sr

Frank Arthur Chaney Sr., passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018. He was born November 6, 1943 to Arthur and Byretha Chaney in Indian Hill, Texas. He was the second of nine children. He accepted the Lord at an early age at Hickory Grove Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 8 at Morris Creek. He attended Mattox Elementary School and graduated from Wiergate High School in 1962. In 1963 he moved to Silsbee, Texas. In 1965 he joined the Armed Forces and served two years. Upon returning to Silsbee, he joined and faithfully served at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church until his death. He served wherever he was asked or needed. He was an ordained Deacon, worked on the Finance Committee, sang in the choir, served in the Brotherhood Auxiliary, a member of Brothers United and the brethren maintenance group. He was also a faithful servant who assisted with Sunday School, Prayer meeting and he served as a faithful Prayer Warrior with Reverend Chapman.

Tommy Joe Mullins Sr.

Tommy Joe Mullins Sr., 76, of Silsbee, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018. Funeral service was Tuesday, June 26 at Good Samaritan Fellowship Church in Fred under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee. Born in Colmesneil, he was a lineman with IBEW Local 2286 and retired from Newtron Electrical. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ann Mullins of Silsbee; children, Darla Leatherwood and husband Bo of Silsbee, Joe Mullins and wife Robin of Silsbee, Leo “Junior” Butler and wife Angel of Mineral Wells, Ricky Mullins and wife Laura of Nederland, Randy Mullins and wife Melissa of Buna, Michael Butler and wife Allison of Silsbee and Destiny Hatcher of Silsbee; sisters, Sharon Johnson and husband Wendell and Judy Hooks, all of Silsbee; and 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Martha Elizabeth Rhoads, 71, of Silsbee, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont after a long illness. Born in Beaumont, she had lived most of her life in Silsbee and was a housewife. Born in Port Acres, he had lived in Lumberton 38 years and owned his own construction company and ranch. Dana Edwin Wolfe II, 66, of Lumberton, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018. Born in Corpus Christi, he had lived most of his life in Hawaii. He was a carpenter.
