Riedinger running for Silsbee ISD

My name is Melissa Riedinger, and I am currently running for Position 2 of the Silsbee ISD School Board.

I am running for school board because I believe that each and every child living within Silsbee school district should be given the highest quality of education possible. Every individual child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow to the highest extent in a quality school that individualizes teaching to the child rather than standards.

Home Finally

By Danny Reneau

After nearly 45 years, the brother of a longtime Silsbee resident is coming home.

Senior Master Sergeant Robert Thomas Elliot was killed in action during the Vietnam War. He was a gunner in the Air Force Special Forces and died when an AC-130 gunship was shot down on Dec. 21, 1972. The gunship was on a reconnaissance mission to prevent North Vietnamese Army units from infiltrating South Vietnam through the neighboring country of Laos.

For many years the communist authorities in Laos did not allow a recovery team to excavate the crash site, where hundreds of bone fragments were recovered. Using the recovered fragments, a military forensic specialist at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii officially identified each of the 13 unaccounted-for members from Elliott’s final mission.

Texas Senate honors law enforcement community

By Sen. Robert Nichols

March is a busy month in the Capitol as many families, students and teachers make their way to Austin for spring break. We enjoy seeing everyone, but there is, of course, no spring break for legislators as final bills are filed and committee agendas are full of potential legislation.

Here are five things happening at your Capitol this week:

Ferguson throws hat in for SISD board spot

My name is Derrell “D.J.” Ferguson, and I am announcing my candidacy for the the Silsbee Independent School District Board of Trustees Place 1. I am blessed beyond measure that God put this opportunity in front of me.

You never realize how big Silsbee really is until you try to stop by as many homes as you possibly can in an effort to let people know your views. The conversations always seem to start out with, “What makes you want to do this?” My answer is simple.
