Our beloved mother, Addie Mae Grantham Sweikert, went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2021. Addie was born on her family’s 40 acres in DeRidder, Louisiana on August 25, 1932. She and her husband, Bill, raised their two daughters in Beaumont, Texas and later enjoyed their retirement on that same property in DeRidder where she proudly served as president of her social sorority.
Addie was a remarkable woman in many respects. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother who loved the Lord. She and Bill were happily married for over 65 years. Addie was also an amazing seamstress who made one of a kind outfits for her daughters (including debutant gowns), reupholstered furniture, and even made a suit & winter coat for her husband. She did all of this while keeping house and preparing delicious home cooked meals every night. She also enjoyed her work with the Beaumont Charity Ball and serving as president of the Minglewood Garden Club.
When her daughters were young, Addie was able to work out of her home as a top selling Fuller Brush sells person. Later, after selling shoes for several years at Gus Mayer, she owned and operated a very successful shoe store, Addie’s Shoes, in Silsbee.
Addie was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Zillia Grantham, and her loving husband, Bill Sweikert.
She is survived by her daughters, Susie Kowalski (Tom) and Sherry Pilling (Brad). She also leaves behind five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who miss her beautiful smile and warm hugs.
A celebration of her life is planned this Spring for her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her memory to The Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer’s.org.
