Bobbie Kelley Smith, 87, died peacefully Thursday December 20, 2018 surrounded by family.
Funeral service was Sunday, December 23 at the First United Methodist Church in Newton under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, also in Newton with burial following at Newton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Kelley, chad Henson, Donnie Henson, Butch Choate, Greg Choate, Jarrod Meehan, and honorary pallbearer Ronnie Henson.
She was born August 2, 1931 in Newton County, Texas. Bobbie met and married the love of her life, W.D. "Drannon" Smith, in the 1940s. They were married 63 years when Drannon passed in 2012. She then moved to live her last years with her daughter, Paula, and son-in-law, Travis, in Silsbee, Texas.
Bobbie spent 35 years doing what she loved, providing beautiful flowers for her community. Upon retiring from the flower business, she spent cherished time with her two grandchildren and worked with Drannon at W.D. Smith Jewelry until his retirement. She was an active and faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Newton, serving in many different capacities throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Drannon; parents, Straite and Mabel Kelley; sisters, Vera Mae Brenneman, Berniece Henson, and Wanda Jones; and brother, Harold Kelley.
Bobbie is survived by her daughter, Paula Smith and husband, Travis of Silsbee; grandson, Joel Smith and wife Kathy, and great-granddaughter Madison of Lumberton; granddaughter, Lauren Pope and husband Aaron of Beaumont; neice whom they raised, Pamela Kelley of Plano; brother Odell Kelley and wife Barbara of Houston; sister Shirley Choate and husband Butch of Orange; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thank you to our special friend, Ms. Dorothy White, who helped us take care of Mom for the past 6 years. Also, thank you to Mrs. Anna Tanton and the wonderful staff at Silsbee Oaks for their loving care during Mom’s last few months.
