2022 Football season recap for area teams

Going into the seventh week of the football season, one must step back and realize that this season has already been an interesting one. Teams that usually perform well are not performing as well. On the other hand, some teams that were not expected to perform as well have pulled off some upsets.

LU Travels to San Antonio for an All Cardinal Battle

Lamar University recorded one of the biggest rallies in program history, scoring 27 unaswered points in the game’s final 19:24 only to come up three points short in a loss to Houston Christian. The Cardinals (0-5/0-2 SLC) are one of four league schools still looking for their first conference win of the season. Next stop for Big Red is San Antonio where the Cardinals will take on defending conference champion UIW. San Antonio’s version of the Cardinals enter week 4-1 (.800) on the season, but 1-1 (.500) in league play. UIW is currently ranked 10th nationally, but has split its last two games. Saturday’s game is slated to begin at 4 p.m. from Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium. It will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 and streamed live on ESPN+.

Avoiding head injuries during sports play

Participation in scholastic sports can be great for students, making a positive impact on their school careers both on the field and in the classroom. Sports can keep athletes physically fit, help develop confidence and assist students with making friends. However, as with all physical activities, safety must be made a priority by athletes, their parents and their coaches.

Tigers break 12 year streak against Mustangs

SILSBEE - On Friday night, the Silsbee Tigers defeated the West Orange Stark Mustangs for the first time in 12 years. The last time Silsbee won against WOS was in 2009. The Tigers celebrated the win with a score of 48-27.

Lady Tigers take down Lady Mustangs

SILSBEE - Friday night, the Silsbee Lady Tigers won their district match against the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 3-0. With the anticipation of the football game to follow, there was tension in the air.

Lady Raiders Lose to LCM and Bridge City

LUMBERTON - After coming off a district win against Silsbee on September 16, the Lumberton Lady Raiders lost two consecutive matches to Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Bridge City last week. The Lady Raiders travelled to Little Cypress- Mauriceville to play the Lady Bears on Tuesday, September 20.

Lady Rebels go 2-1 finishing up non-district

EVADALE - The Evadale Lady Rebels volleyball won two matches and lost one as they finished up non-district play recently. On Friday, September 16, they won their match against Corrigan-Camden 3-0.
