Harwell Coleman, 83, of Dallas, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his home. He was born in Kountze to Reverend Evelt Alonzo Coleman and Mary Elizabeth Frazier Coleman.

Graveside service will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, January 20 at Trinity Valley Cemetery in Kountze under the direction of Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper.

He retired in 2004 after 42 years in public education. He was a teacher and coach at Central High School in Jefferson, Texas, Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Texas, and Marshall High School, and Pemberton High School, both in Marshall, Texas. He also worked as the Dean of Men at Jarvis Christian College. In the early 1970’s he began working for the Dallas Independent School District teaching and coaching, and as a home school coordinator in the district. He also worked as a timekeeper for athletic events at Forester stadium for 25 years.

Survivors include brothers, Marvin Coleman and Donald Coleman and Lula; sisters, Mary Adams and Shirley Simon; daughter, Porcha Coleman Hogan; sons, Victor Sasser and Glen Sasser; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Green Pine Baptist Church in Kountze.
