Joe Smith

Joe Neal Smith, 78, of Kountze, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at a Beaumont hospital. A memorial service was Saturday, January 13 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. He was a retired truck driver for Burrell Trucking in Evadale with 15 years service. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Priscilla Smith of Kountze; son, Stephen Scott Smith and wife Sabrina of Beaumont; and seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Martha Kirkendall

Martha Kirkendall, 61, of Silsbee passed away January 1, 2018. Funeral service was Thursday, January 4th at Broussards Mortuary in Silsbee with burial following at Cunningham Cemetery. She was a native of Liberty. Survivors include daughter, Betty Greninger of Silsbee; son, Douglas Teston, mother, Betty Cherry of Kountze, Virginia Black of Kountze; Sharon Cherry of Woodville; Walter Johnson and wife, Theresa of Alabama; Ricky Cherry of Dayton; Peggy Cherry and Rita Cherry both of Washington, Ronnie Cherry, of Houston; and Jeff Cherry and his wife, Shanna, of Big Sandy; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard McKinley Plake, 66, of Evadale, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018. Funeral service was Sunday, January 14 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at Morse Cemetery in Buna. Born in Silsbee he was a retired self-employed welder and a member of Pipefitters Local 195. He was also a farrier, shoeing horses. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Evadale; sons, Cody Plake and wife Shana of Wylie and Colt Plake and wife Stephanie of Lumberton; and three grandchildren.

Mirtha Mae Walters, 84, of Silsbee passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Silsbee under the direction of J.B. Coleman Memorial Mortuary in Silsbee with burial following at Kirby Cemetery, also in Silsbee. She was a native of Newton County. Survivors include stepdaughters, Barbara Walters Hartell of Los Angeles, California, Rev. Lois Walters Woodard of Altadena, California and Jewel Walters Rhone of Dallas; sisters, Carrie Crawford and husband Henry of Kirbyville and Melissa Wyatt and husband Skeet, Lillie Johnson and Bobbie Lewis, all of Jasper; and a host of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Margaret Ann Matthews Burdette, 73, of Silsbee, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018. She was born in Silsbee. Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 10 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium in Beaumont. Survivors include her children, Wade Burdette of Silsbee, Wesley Burdette and wife Michelle of Beaumont, and Callie LeJune and husband Troy, Leah Burdette, and Rachel Burdette McNamara, all of Silsbee; siblings, Sue Burt and husband James of Buna, Joyce Beaver of Silsbee, Nell Work and husband Pat of Kountze and Tony Matthews and wife Carey of Lumberton; and grandchildren, Terrie LeJune of Brazoria and Garrett LeJune and Arwyn McNamara, both of Silsbee; and great-grandchild, Kole LeJune of Silsbee.

James Arthur Greenwood, 68, of Fred, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. His graveside service was Thursday, January 4 at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Silsbee. Born in Silsbee, he worked as a supervisor for Kirby and Louisiana Pacific and retired as owner operator of Greenwood Lawn Service. Survivors include son, Doot Greenwood and wife Christina of Spurger; daughters, Amy Johnson and Kim Spurlock and husband Jason, all of Fred; sisters, Martha Gore of Silsbee and Paula Hicks of Spurger; and six grandchildren.

Iva Clark

Iva Rae Caywood Clark, 80, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at a Beaumont hospital. Funeral service was Friday, January 5 at Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton with burial following at Hooks Cemetery in Kountze under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. She retired from Sears in Beaumont with 17 years service as a salesperson in the hardware department. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of the Easter Star, Chapter 298 in Silsbee. Survivors include her husband, Thomas H. Clark of Lumberton; son, Clayton Caywood and wife Denise of Lumberton; daughter, Felecia Caywood Colton and husband Mike of Kountze; step-children, Thomas Clark Jr. and wife Jo of Beaumont, Rob Clark and wife Jana of Bridge City and Teresa Clark Reza and husband Jerry of Bridge City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
