      In the estimation of at least one longtime resident of Silsbee, the city is experiencing more construction right now that at any other time in the past 100 years.
     If anyone should know, it would be Bobby Read, former owner of The Silsbee Bee. Read has been part of Silsbee for nearly 100 years himself and in his capacity of publisher and editor of The Bee, he has seen the community grow and prosper to varied degrees.
 
 

Priority One EMS sells to Acadian
 The familiar black and gold colors emblazoned on shirts, ball caps and ambulances driven by Priority One employees will soon be a part of Hardin County history.
     But the owners of the longtime EMS company promises the customer service and dedication to quality healthcare will continue to be a part of the county’s future.
 

Disabled vets get much-needed help
 The Texas Legislature has taken another step in honoring those veterans who have made sacrifices for their country, this time in the form of a property tax exemption.
According to Chief Appraiser Amador Reyna, military veterans who have suffered a 100 percent service-related disability will receive a full exemption for the property taxes on their main residence.
 

Kountze PD clears 11- year-old
 Accusations that an 11 year old boy sexually assaulted a three year old girl have been dropped for a lack of evidence, said Kountze Police Capt. Paul Dark 

High temps bring safety issue to boil
     Heat can affect anyone but it especially affects the elderly, young children and those with health problems more drastically than it may others.
     Heat disorders tend to increase with age and heat cramps to an 18 year old may be heat exhaustion to someone 40, and a heat stroke to someone 60.

Burn ban in effect
Jasper County Judge Mark Allen issued a declaration of disaster along with an order restricting outdoor burning early Monday. The declaration came after Jasper County and the Southeast Texas area was hit with record high temperatures and little rain in the last few weeks. 

Public hearing set for July 7
The Kirbyville City Council has set July 7 at 6:30 p.m. as the date for a public hearing to discuss possible changes to how billing is set for electricity. 

Drunk driver strikes house
An alleged drunk driver ramming her car into a mobile home on the south end of Kirbyville abruptly ended the executive session between the Kirbyville City Council and Police Chief Jeff Clopp last Monday night. 

Michigan picks up fugitive
Sheriff’s deputies from St. Joseph County in Michigan made a 17-hour trip last week to pick up a fugitive that was arrested in Jasper County. 

Cruisin' Kirbyville set
The Sixth Annual Cruisin’ Kirbyville Car and Bike Show is set for Saturday, July 18 at the Magnolia Park. The annual event is sponsored by the Kirbyville Chamber of Commerce.

Palin quitting early as Alaska governor
Sarah Palin said today that she will step down as Alaska's governor by the end of the month. She will not seek election to a second gubernatorial term in 2010. Palin, a Republican, was elected governor in 2006. She was tapped as Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate last year.
