Fred McCray, a descendant of a slave, will be the speaker for a Black History Month event scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 23, at the Ice House Museum, located at 818 Ernest Avenue in Silsbee.
McCray is a descendant of Billy McRae, an enslaved person living in the Jasper area.
He is a member of he Texas Freedom Colonies Project and very active in the Jasper “Dixie Colony Project.
