  • This 70-foot oak tree fell within inches of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Moore at 1023 Kiwanis during the storm last Saturday night, while they were in the house. Also a tree in front of their house caught fire from a surge of power from a downed line when batteries had been installed in a transformer a few yards away.

A heavy rain storm accompanied by winds of up to 85 miles an hour left thousands without power and caused extensive damage to property throughout most of Hardin County Saturday night. At one point between 8 p.m. and midnight Saturday, Entergy reported that 42,000 customers were without power. As late as Monday, more than 16,000 Entergy residential and business customers were still without power…
