Rescue crews spend hours searching for missing woman

A large number of first responders and rescue crew members spent several hours on Tuesday of last week looking for a woman who was missing after two kayaks capsized on Village Creek. After members of the Hardin County Sheriff ’s Office, the Silsbee Fire Department, game wardens and others spent more than four hours looking for the woman, she was found safe about a mile from where the kayaks had capsized.

The Kountze Chamber of Commerce has been busy making strides to create enthusiasm in their town of a recorded population of 2,163. Several chamber members started February out by attended Hardin County Chamber Days at the State Capitol in Austin on February 13 and heard multiple speakers, including Senator Robert Nichols and State Rep. Ernest Bailes.

Abbott lays out seven top priorities

Greg Abbott, in a State of the State address last Thursday, outlined his seven top priorities for the ongoing legislative session before an invitation- only audience at a manufacturing facility in San Marcos, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Those priorities include $4 billion for border security, property tax relief and more school choice for parents, which he called “education freedom.” He avoided use of the word “vouchers.’
