Carole Ann Marcella, 77, of Houston, Texas, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. She was born in Richland, Washington, on February 9, 1945, to Samuel and Lillie Marcella, the oldest of three girls; she later welcomed sisters Saundra Sue and Patricia Gayle Marcella.

The Marcella family moved back home to Texas shortly after she was born. Carole grew up in the small southeast Texas town of Honey Island and attended Kountze schools, graduating in 1963. She was well known and liked by her classmates and participated in band by playing the tenor saxophone and as a twirler. She attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and French and earned her Texas teaching certificate. She then continued her education at the University of St. Thomas, in Houston, where she studied Pre-law, earning her master’s degree in Political Science. Carole entered the work force as a marketing editor for Marathon Manufacturing Company and enjoyed an illustrious career with the company before transitioning to Shell Oil Company, where she spent many years in their legal department as a paralegal, retiring from her position in 2016.

Carole was outgoing and never met a stranger. Everyone who knew Carole, quickly found her to be engaging, quick-witted, and prone to laughter. She was able to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew her into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. She was intelligent, outgoing, easy to get to know, and demonstrated a deep concern for others.

She was a gourmet cook but loved to eat out while visiting with friends and family. She was known for talking a lot and often nonstop. Anyone who knew her knew that she loved to read and learn new things, often sitting outside in the sunshine with her two dachshunds Mila and Kirby, or her kitty Coco, with a book or tablet in her hand. She loved to be on her computer,

tablet, or phone, either learning or communicating with friends.

Carole led a varied and full life. She loved traveling. Her favorite trips include going on a safari in Kenya, a salmon fishing trip in Alaska, Dubai, Costa Rica, and visiting the Orient. Carol was most passionate about her pets, and any animal that needed to be rescued. She helped by researching animal rescues through the Shell Hero Program, donating not only her time, but also providing financial support to improve the lives of many endangered and abused animals.

She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Samuel and Lillie Marcella, her long-time companion, Mr. Francis Fair, and her dearest friend Ruby Walker.

She is survived by her loving family; her sisters Saundra Whittington and Gayle Gray, and niece, Rebell Wade, and her husband, Dwight, all of Kountze, Texas, niece, Amanda Carter, and husband, Brian, and a nephew, Samuel Gray, all of Beaumont. Also surviving her are grand-nieces, Makayla, and her husband, Coby Coleman, of Kountze, and Makenna Wade, and grand-nephew, Austin Wade, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her longtime dearest friend, Chris Jones. Carole has had a great friendship with her longtime companion’s adult children and their families, Michael Fair and his wife, Barbara, of Frisco, Texas, Cheryl Alden and her husband, Pat, of McAllen, Texas, and Christine Muñoz and her husband, Gilbert, of Highland Ranch, Colorado.

She will be missed.
