Jason Karnes

Jason Michael Karnes, 38, of San Angelo, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 in Round Rock with his loved ones at his side. He was born on July 12, 1984 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont to Matthew Jason Karnes and Gretchen Derkits Woodard.

Jason graduated from Silsbee High School in 2003 and worked construction most of his life, both in Houston and San Angelo. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed a special camaraderie with his close friends from high school. He was a kind, charismatic man with a big heart.

Jason was preceded in death by his father; grandfathers, John Derkits and Leo Karnes; and cousins, Erin Donalson, Beatrice Cormier, and Lee Worley.

Survivors include his wife, Marybel and daughter, Arabella; mother and stepfather, Gretchen and Bobby Woodard; brothers, Andrew Karnes, and Curt and Clint Woodard; uncles, Wesley Karnes and James Derkits and wife Laura; aunts, Alyson Donalson and husband Drew, Jana Cormier and husband James, and Cecelia Allen and husband Brad; grandmothers, Bonnie Derkits and Lola Karnes; special friend and long-time employer, Pablo of Houston; and many other friends and relatives.

A memorial was held on Saturday, June 24 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Silsbee with the Rev. James Derkits officiating.
