Katie Ruth Harris Stimits, 86, of Evadale, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 2:54 PM, at Mill Creek Nursing Home in Silsbee, Texas. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, August 14 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at Morse Cemetery in Buna. Katie was a lifelong resident of the Buna and Evadale area. She was a graduate of Buna High School Class of 1955. Shortly after she met Elton Ray Stimits in Evadale and they were married on September 17, 1955. They made their home on Gum Slough Road in Buna and raised their 6 children. They were married 52 years until Elton Ray’s death in 2008. She was a retired cashier from Williams Convenience Store in Evadale.

Katie is survived by her 3 sons, Wade and his wife Laverne, Clinton and his wife, Lisa and Marty Stimits all of Buna, 3 daughters, Pam Baumann and her husband, Thomas of Silsbee, Darla Cagle of Lumberton and Maria Stimits of Buna. She had 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. One brother, Doug Harris, 5 Sisters, Louise Jones, Billie Jones, Shirley Cappen, Pauline Harris and Iva Harris. Also, a host of nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Ray Stimits, Her parents Lucky and Hallie Harris and brothers, JB and Don Earl Harris.

Katie was a member of New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Evadale up until she had to be admitted to the nursing home. She always enjoyed playing cards with Elton Ray and their friends and then later on her and her sisters started having card games together once a month with each one taking turns to host lunch and cards. At every family function she treated everyone with a big ole pot of her homemade chicken and dumplings. She was a fabulous cook.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday evening at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Morse Cemetery in Buna, Texas. Services will be conducted by Rev. Jeff Gravis.

Pallbearers were Wade, Clinton & Marty Stimits, Thomas Baumann, Jordy Cagle and Lane Hoke. Honorary pallbearers were her Grandsons.
