Patsy “Pat” Louise Cooper passed peacefully with family on July 22, 2023, donning her notorious red lipstick as she left this world for the next.

Pat was born in Warren, Texas on November 24, 1929. She was the fourth of six children born to Walter Lee and Reeda Kincaid. Throughout her long life she was fiercely independent and resourceful. She graduated from Warren High School at the young age of 16. After that, she began working, traveling, and enjoying all of life’s experiences.

In the late 50’s, she met the love of her life, L.B. Cooper, in a café in downtown Beaumont while on her coffee break; they married in a simple ceremony a short time later. In 1965, she was blessed with her only child, her beloved son Preston. She was a dedicated mother and wife, but truly shined when she became a grandmother. Thirty-two years ago, Pat became “Mimi,” a name she was famously known by in the later years of her life. She never missed an activity that involved her granddaughters and was always their biggest fan and supporter. She was fortunate enough to spend a few years with her great-grandsons, whom she loved sharing snacks and “purple juice” with.

Her petite body was fueled daily by at least 4 cups of hot black coffee and a cold can of Coke (Diet Coke after its invention in 1982). You would not see her in public without her notorious red lips; she always kept a tube of lipstick within reach. Pat was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed doing the crosswords in multiple newspapers daily. She was a steadfast follower of Christ and truly tried to embody His teachings. Pat was kind, generous, humble, and accepting of all people; she was the true definition of unconditional love. She loved to watch Law & Order and Judge Judy. She enjoyed music from numerous genres and decades. Pat had a sweet tooth and always kept “a lil something sweet” in her various cookie jars in her kitchen. She was a great cook and made the best chocolate sheet cake. She was always willing to lend a hand or provide support to whomever may need it. Pat was a truly beautiful soul who will be greatly missed.

Pat is preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Cooper; parents, Walter Lee and Reeda Kincaid; sisters, Laura Holland and Miram Kretzinger of Corpus Christi, and brothers, Daniel Kincaid and James Robert Kincaid of Lumberton.

She is survived by her son, Preston Cooper and wife Melanie of Lumberton; granddaughter, Mallory Cooper Flanagan and husband Christopher of Beaumont; granddaughter, Hanna Cooper Laudig and husband Tyler of Lumberton; sister, Johnnye Corley of Corpus Christi; and great-grandsons, Wilder and Quint Flanagan of Beaumont.

A gathering of Pat’s family and friends will take place on Saturday, August 5th from 5pm – 7pm at Broussard’s in Silsbee.
