RICHARD WORLEY

Richard Glen Worley, 81 of Silsbee, died Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born on September 17, 1941, in Silsbee, to Edna Joy Worley and Ladson Ervin “Red” Worley. Richard graduated from Silsbee High School in 1959 and attended Lamar University. He served on the Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees for nearly twenty years and retired from Eastex Pulp and Paper after almost four decades. He later worked for the Hardin County Emergency Management- Floodplain Office and served on the Hardin County Appraisal Board.

Richard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, serving in numerous capacities including bishop. He had a genuine love for people and his life was intertwined with service to others as well as his family. He was a kind, humble man who impacted the lives of many. After retirement, he enjoyed a special camaraderie with his buddies from McDonald’s, Brookshire Brothers, and the Donut Palace.

Richard’s “Wittiest” title in high school followed him throughout his life. He never tired of entertaining his children and grandchildren, and his quick wit was the stuff of legend. He loved traveling with his family, and the stories his six kids tell about being packed inside a not-too-steady station wagon for days will provide dinner table conversations for generations to come.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise “Angel” Worley; children, Dr. Kyle Worley and his wife, Pam, of Beaumont; Jill Bebee and her husband, Brian and Glen Worley and his wife, Jana, all of Silsbee; Paul Worley and his wife, Bethany, of Beaumont; and Joy Smith and her husband, Danny, of Wimberley; daughter-in-law, Kelli Worley-Hendren, of Andalusuia, Alabama; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Noah, Thomas, Samuel, Hannah, Brad, Madeline, Cullen, Scout, Annie, Eliza, Ladson, Georgia, Sylvia, Clara, Elise, Opal, Cami, Jaxson, Winston, Stella, Lola, Sullivan, and Desmond; and great-grandchildren, Bamford and Breya. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee Worley; and brother, Charles Worley.
