Barlow settling in at new position at Lumberton Public Library

LUMBERTON — Amanda Barlow is Lumberton Public Library’s new head librarian. She started on March 1. “So far I’ve really enjoyed it,” Barlow said.

She is a 2003 graduate of Kirbyville High School and later attended Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) where she studied computer networking troubleshooting and design for two years.

She’s also attending Lamar University where she will earn a degree in business administration in December.

Before coming to Lumberton, Barlow worked six years at the Kirbyville Public Library.

Gilder receives certificate in health information from LIT

Silsbee resident Rewa Gilder recently received a certificate in Health Informatics from Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT).

Gilder, a 1989 graduate of Silsbee High School, has been employed as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) at Silsbee Oaks Health Care for 16 years.

Gilder said she started to earn a degree in nursing, when that did not work out she decided to do some research and pursue a different experience in higher learning.

Health Informatics is using healthcare information to foster better communication among all of a patient's healthcare providers.

John Jefferson Collins Sr.

John Jefferson Collins Sr., 62, of Silsbee, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018. Born on May 18, 1956 to Jesse and Jerry Collins in Silsbee, John retired from the U.S. Marine Corp where he served his country faithfully and honorably. John loved to fish, however, according to family members, he didn't catch much, but he loved to fish. John was loved by so many people, he will be missed each and everyday. John is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Iris Langston Collins of Silsbee; sons, Shawn Langston and wife, Jeanette of St. George, Utah, John Collins II of Roswell, Georgia, and Tim Collins of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Chasity Bryce and husband, Jesse of Austin; four grandchildren, Sydney and Westen Bryce of Austin and Grady and Daylin Langston of St. George, Utah. "I will always love you sweetheart, and will see you again one day, until then, Semper Fi." Services for John Jefferson Collins Sr. were private.

Gloria Ann Boneaux

Gloria Ann Boneaux, 77, of Groves, Texas passed away June 11, 2018. She was born in Silsbee, Texas on October 23, 1940 to the late Rene Trahan and Gladys Ruth Moore Trahan. Gloria is survived by her husband of 37 years, Raymond Boneaux of Groves; her son, Rusty Hargrove and his wife, Sonya of Newport, Washington; his daughters, Terry Collier and her husband, Padgett of Silsbee, and Debra Roberts and her husband, Andy of Astoria, Oregon; 8 grandchildren; and 7 greatgrandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Tommy Trahan and Pat Trahan. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with Father J. C. Coon officiating.

Vernon King, 74, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Silsbee Convalescent Center in Silsbee. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at J.B. Coleman Memorial Mortuary in Silsbee with burial following at Hickory Grove Cemetery, also in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. the day of service at the mortuary. Survivors include his daughter, Veretta King of Lufkin; son, Keno King of San Antonio; sisters, Ella Mae King and Gladys Burton, both of San Antonio; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Born in Silsbee, he was a former resident of Tyler and had lived Silsbee before moving to Beaumont. Survivors include his daughters, LaTonya Helmich and husband Charles, Ronda Cartwright, Jackie Sells Coleman, Latalia Thomas and Larry Harrison, Lekeitha Wilson, and Tomiche Shivone and John Wyatt; sons, Alvin Wilson Jr. and Pauledro Wilson; sisters, Verline Lewis and Veronica Wilson; brothers, Jerry Wilson and wife JoAnn, George Wilson, Tony Wilson, Troy Wilson and wife Leatha, Terry Wilson and wife Marie and Fredrick Kelly; and 39 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Mourad “Bo” Collier

Mourad “Bo” Collier, 72, of Silsbee, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018. Funeral service was Monday, June 11 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with burial following at R.S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery, also in Silsbee. Born in Silsbee, he was a carpenter, a truck driver and a pipefitter out of Local 195. He was also a United States Marine Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou Collier of Silsbee; daughters, Maria Caraway and husband Chris and Misty Shakeel and husband Syed, all of Silsbee; siblings, Melva, Nelda, Liz, Hazel, and Eddie; and six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Mary Jane Dryden

Mary Jane Dryden, 60, of Kountze, passed away May 29, 2018 at home. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 2 at Agape Church in Silsbee. Cremation was under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Kountze. She worked as a waitress until she became disabled in 1982. Survivors include her husband of almost 42 years, L.C. Dryden of Kountze; brothers, Chester Curtis Laurent of Silsbee, Herman Laurent of Spurger and Tommy Laurent of Silsbee; and sisters, Sarah Richardson of Mauriceville, Ruth Lilliemae Page of Clute and Shirley Darlene Laurent and Rose York, both of Silsbee.

Sunny skies and summertime temperatures welcomed the Silsbee High School Class of 2018 during their commencement ceremony May 31 at Tiger Stadium. Several thousand people attend the annual event which features speeches from Valedictorian Courtney Gore, Salutatorian Neeleigh Smith, Student Body President Jerry Paine and Senior Class President Emily Grice
