Lumberton Police seeking public’s help in unsolved case

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two white males who committed criminal mischief at the Lumberton City Park on FM 421.

According to the LPD’s Facebook post on March 22, the incident occurred on Feb. 21.

Hale second at THSPA state meet

ABILENE — Silsbee junior Marquell Hale took second place in the 275-pound division in Division 2 of the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s state championships on March 16 and 17 at the Taylor County Expo Center.

Hale, who weighed in at 247 pounds, finished with a total of 1,630 — 650 squat, 405 bench and 575 deadlift.

Silsbee, Lumberton teams in bi-district playoff action

Tigers, Lady Tigers face H-F in first round

Eric Martin scored two goals in the first half as the Silsbee Tigers closed out the District 19-4A boys’ soccer regular season with a 2-1 win over Hudson at home on March 23.

Martin’s first goal was in the 11th minute and his second was in the 13th minute as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Bookmark winners revealed in artistic fashion

Five Silsbee High School students received accolades after each were announced as Bookmark Design winners of the annual contest held at Silsbee High School library.

Tad Cancio received first place; Raina Harmon received second place, and Shawni Roby received third place; while Sydney McKinney and Mindi Barton each received honorable mention.

Silsbee’s Mark Henry headed to WWE Hall of Fame

SAMFORD, Conn. — World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced March 19 that Silsbee native Mark Henry will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018.

According to the WWE’s announcement, “The World's Strongest Man” will join Goldberg, The Dudley Boyz, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, Hillbilly Jim, Kid Rock (celebrity honor) and Warrior Award recipient Jarrius "JJ" Robertson as those being honored during the 2018 Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 6, during WrestleMania 34 Week in New Orleans.

Fire damages Silsbee Muffler and Tire

A March 17 fire caused extensive damage to Silsbee Muffler and Tire. 

The fire, which apparently started in the wall between the showroom and the shop area, started about one hour after closing.

The blaze destroyed most of the showroom and warehouse area.

Two people injured in 3-vehicle accident

LUMBERTON — Two people were injured and taken to a Beaumont hospital after they were involved in a threevehicle accident on March 15 on U.S. 96/69 near the Keith Road exit south of Lumberton.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Stephanie Davis, DPS received a report of a multiple-vehicle crash at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Davis stated preliminary DPS reports indicate a 2008 Mercury sedan was traveling southbound on US 96/69 followed by a gray 2002 GMC pickup truck and a maroon 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Kountze blasts Bob Hope for first District 23-3A win

KOUNTZE — Three Kountze Lion pitchers combine for a no-hitter against Bob Hope on March 19 for an 11-1 win — their first in District 23-3A play.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10- run mercy rule.

The Lions scored four runs in the first inning. lead-off batter Brayden Voigtman was hit by a pitch, then Jaxon Martinka followed with a double. Kyler Thompson’s triple brought home Voigtman and Martinka Hunter Matthews got on base with an error and Cade Richards doubled to clear the bases.

Tiger trio heads District 22-5A elite team

The Class 4A state champions dominated the 22-4A All- District boys’ basketball team which was announced by coaches last week.

Juniors Devon McCain and Jordyn Adams shared Co- Most Valuable Player honors, while sophomore Braelon Bush was selected as the Offensive MVP.

Silsbee head coach Joe Sigler was named Coach of the Year.
